Week 7

Berlin (6-0) vs Shade (3-3)

This isn’t your typical Berlin/Shade game with a spread of (-35). Shade is starting to prove they can play and be physical. I though Shade should have won their contest last week but were not able to get the big play. Shade needs a signature win to legitimize their new rein. I am not saying they are going to win this week but they have the ability to make things interesting. Berlin has been in some VERY physical games as of late and could be suffering. I hope this game turns into a Glotfelty and Medva shoot out (that would be very exciting for fans). I think though Berlin has shown it has depth. I think the “other 10” will get Berlin the victory this week. Glotfelty will still have a good game but watch for some of the other playmakers to make key plays at key moments for the Mountaineers.

BERLIN- 28
SHADE- 14

Portage (5-1) vs Windber (5-1)
These two teams have been the spoilers all season. I doubted that they would be able to do much this year with such young squads but they have proven what well coached teams can accomplish. This is going to be a dog fight. Both squads have a physical running game the will run at you or beat you outside. I have really liked how both coaches have adapted their offenses this season to feature the explosive personnel they have. I think Windber has the more diverse offense and can rely on the passing game. Portage’s QB has yet to be called upon to make key throws in a big game. This game has the potential to be the best game of the year. On paper, I think Winder has the better squad. However something tells me the Mustangs are going to continue to shock and awe. -By far, the game of the week.

PORTAGE- 21
WINDBER-20

North Star (4-2) vs Meyersdale (1-5)
The Cougars barely escaped with a victory last week. It was scary to watch. Thank goodness the Cougars end the season with a very manageable schedule. This Cougar teams may get lucky and land a spot in playoffs but will not get out of the first round. The Cougar fans than don’t follow the program better buckle up because the next few years are going to be ugly. I really thought this team would provide one last “hurrah” before the downslide hit but they are not clicking. Meyersdale is coming off a loss to Conemaugh Valley (when was the last time CV won a homecoming game?). Meyersdale has not been able to get the ship going. They have a tough schedule coming up and might finish the year with one “W!” That would be yet another surprise to this very interesting WestPac season.

NORTH STAR- 35
MEYERSDALE- 14

Ferndale (1-5) vs Blacklick Valley (4-2)
YAHHH!!!! FERNDALE ENDS THE LOSING STREAK!!!! (when was the last time Ferndale won a homecoming?!?!)

BLACKLICK VALLEY- 44
FERNDALE- 20

Conemaugh Valley (2-4) vs Rockwood (1-5)

What a heart breaking OT loss for the Rockets last week. I’m sure it is going to be a difficult week of practice for the Rockets. This coaching staff deserves credit… a depleted roster, injuries left and right, and a tough schedule. You have to give the team credit though for fighting back and forcing an OT when down by three scores. The Blue Jays are chirping up on the hill after their first homecoming win since the Jacoby era (not sure on that but sounds about right). The work horse for the Jays has been senior Shane Corson. Every week Corson lands in the end zone the Blue Jays win. He will most definitely get in the end zone this week and the Jays will have their first 2+ win season since 2008.

CONEMAUGH VALLEY – 21
ROCKWOOD- 14

Conemaugh Township (2-4) vs Homer Center (5-1)
I am really not sure what Homer Center has but their record says enough to scare me. The Indians have not been able to play a complete game all year. They show signs of life and then fly off the reservation. They face a tough two weeks. (when was the last time CT lost 4 in a row?)

CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP - 14
HOMER CENTER - 40

The Future is looking bright...:
Portage- Caleb Kephart (So) - He is 5th in the conference for rushing yards.
Portage- Luke Dividock (Fr) - He is 12th in the rushing.
Portage- Brandon Vocco (So) - He has been a tank on the line.
Ferndale - Isaiah Sajatovich (So) - He leads the conference in receiving yards.
Windber - Jared Maurizio (So)- He is 5th in total tackles.
Conemaugh Valley - Brandon Galasso (Fr) - He is 7th in tackles.
Berlin - Bryce Fochtman (So) - He is 10th in tackles.
Berlin- Braden Fochtman (Fr) - He is the next game breaker for Berlin.
Conemaugh Township- Taylor Cahill (So) - He has been asked to do it all.

Awesome job as always. Having seen Berlin last week, they have other guys that can make plays. The QB Miller can make things happen. I've heard nothing but good things about the Medva kid. Should be a good one.

Berlin-35 Shade-7

Berlin played very well last week and Glotfelty is as good as they come. Shade also played well but Medva only managed 34 yards on the ground. Also, Berlin looks dangerous with the start of a passing game, and I don't see anyone stopping them until the D5 Championship.

Portage-28 Windber-21

Portage has really showed up this year, with the edition of the Kephart brothers helping out a lot. Windber has 3 or 4 solid backs but Portage, in my opinion, is the best coached team in the WESTPac.

North Star-28 Meyersdale-0

North Star has been playing solid Defense all year. i don't expect that to change this week. With Miller back in the line up, i expect the running game to pick up quite a bit. Meyersdale is down this year but still has some nice athletes in Schrock and Berkely. Also, I expect the next few years for North Star to be solid, since they only have 3 Senior Starters on both sides of the ball.

Ferndale- 7 Blacklick Valley- 35

Sheesley is a great running back and Ferndale lacks a run stopping defense. But hey, how can you not cheer for the Yellow Jackets?

Conemaugh Valley- 28 Rockwood-6

Shane Corson is a tough runner and he has some athletes around him. I feel for Rockwood, and it's nice to see what kids they have stick it out for the season. But as they say, points are the only thing that matter.

I'm really not sure what to say about the Township game, as I have no knowledge of Homer Center. The Cahills are good football players, and Bruno Rosa will get better with the games. He has a great target in Kenny Domonkos. Good Luck Indians!

SRV I enjoy reading your post and you seem to have a real good grasp on West Pac Football.

I agree with all your picks except for the score in the Twp. game. Again being bias and all, I really dont think Twp
gets blown out as you have predicted. I sure hope your wrong with that one as it will be a long drive for the CT faithful and even
longer ride home not to mention a real disappointment if that is the score. Twp. has not been blown out since the first week at Berlin without their best defensive player.

Prediction- Township has lead at halftime in all but one of their games, but as has happened all season, I imagine they will not adjustments at the half and then who knows how many points they will give up. My only hope is they try a few blitzes(zero against Windber) and try to throw in a few mis direction or trick plays somewhere in the course of the game. PLEASE TRY SOMETHING OTHER THAN STRAIGHT UP THE GUT WHEN THE OTHER TEAM HAS 8 OR 9 IN THE BOX. Good Luck to all.

I agree. I don't think Township will lose by more than 14. Guess we'll see soon..
