D-5 , D-6 playoff locations/Championship sites
D-5 , D-6 playoff locations/Championship sites
Sorry Guys, Even though I follow D-5 and 6, by location and history,
, I am a D-7 Guy...For the playoffs do both leagues go out of their way to schedule semi finals on artificial turf? Is that whay so many Saturday games because of limited locations? and of course there is a 50/50 split in these parts about the "importance" or motivation for a finale at Heinz, is there a "Mecca" for D-6 or D-5 games to make it to a certain location. I think D-6 championships are played at the point and D-5 at Somerset, I believe D-10 culminates to Erie Stadium or Slippery rock and D-9 Clarion...Anyways back to the point for "Optimum playing conditions" do either league keep the playing surface in mind or is it strictly a matter of Mid way playing sites between two schools regardless of field.
Re: D-5 , D-6 playoff locations/Championship sites
I may be wrong, but I think that with D5, its always been the halfway point for both teams involved.

D-5 ....Higher seed gets to host one round of playoff games, reward for regular season ...This year with 6 qualifiers...3 & 4 hosted the quarters, 1 & 2 hosts the semis....Championship and some year's, 'A' semis on neutral field...No special place for the neutral field...Usually Bedford, C. Ridge and NB are the picks if a Bedford County venue is deemed the best...Berlin has been used a lot in Somerset County, now Somerset might be added at times too.
D 6...always higher seeds host until the finals...then Mansion Park in 'Toona town
Quarterfinals on Friday night #s 1 & 2 plays...leaves #3 &4 to play Saturday...D5 #3 played Fri, #4 Sat
Semis...#1 plays Friday #2 plays Sat....gives others teams and fans in the bracket the chance to watch your next opponent in action the week before.

Thanks for all the answers Guys!
I do like the "reward" for the higher seeds, But I admit I am very leary of the mud pits and how the "better" team might not move on...I just have seen this IMHO with past WPIAL playoffs and even in the state , I.E. steve breaston Woodland hills team bogged down by mud in state championship...But of course both teams have the same conditions.

Would be interesting if Penn State would let Beaver Stadium be used for some state playoff games. Both D6 and D9.

Southpaw I don't think Governor Corbett would allow the PIAA to play games at Beaver Stadium or at The Field That JoePa Built!southpaw wrote:Would be interesting if Penn State would let Beaver Stadium be used for some state playoff games. Both D6 and D9.
