UPJ
Tonight the portage girls take on the berlin ladies at 6 pm, followed by Shade vs Conemaugh Township at 8 in men's action. Any predictions for these games?
Re: UPJ
Hopefully fyock and walker are at 100% for this game because it is a big court and ct has more depth than shade. Ct will show a lot of different looks after made foul shots etc with presses full and half court looks. It depends on if shade can handle pressure because ct will come at you with a lot of looks. But on the flip side, shade plays great man to man defense also. I would put nash walker on boyer and fyock on fisher if healthy, if not then medva. It should be a great game with two great teams and well coached teams.

Re: UPJ
I will take portage girls in the rematch. They can put a lot of athletes on the floor and that will be to their advantage. If their big girl has to sit with foul trouble, advantage shift to Berlin. Going to jump on the ct bandwagon for the boys game. This will be a great game regardless of the outcome. Their depth will assist them greatly on the upj floor. They lack a true big man but have athletes that play big. Indians in a close one. The key will be their smallest man on the floor. If burns has a big game, look for the Indians to be west PAC champs.

Re: UPJ
congrats to portage girls and shade boys. very disappointed in the refs for this game. westpac title game should be done by refs from either bedford or d6. shame that refs who did many shade games gets this game. shade did great on the line making 26 foul shots. fyock had them hitting 3's from the corner and lesko did nothing to counter this. ct was contested on every shot and shade had wide open shots. if ct doesnt hit their free throws they wont even make it out of d5.
Re: UPJ
Refs had no difference in the ct vs shade game. Ct was more agressive the whole game and did different defenses to create all their fouls. Shade stayed in a tight man the whole game and shut ct down. Shouldn't have been close as it was. Ct has 1 scorer in boyer and he played his best and shade still won. Not as impressed with ct as origanally thought. Knew boyer was awesome, but wasn't impressed with the others as advertised.

i wont sit here and rant like you did about the somerset/jtown game where you mentioned all the no calls and bad calls. i said the game should be reffed by guys who have no interest not by guys who live between windber and shade. a championship game shouldnt have refs that do one team or anothers games all year period. that is why i posted earlier that home court is important not only for the home crowd but having the refs who normally do a majority of your games. and those others who didnt impress you had a off night. you dont win 18 games straight with a bunch of UNIMPRESSED kids. boyer averages 13 points a game and they usually put up 60+ points a game. shade played a great game and well deserved win.sppawfan wrote:Refs had no difference in the ct vs shade game. Re: UPJ
The officials for the WestPAC championship games rotate annually between the northern Cambria, steel city and Somerset chapter. The chapter officials choose which officials will be doing the games. CT did play an extremely aggressive style of d last night. The officials called it tight. From what I have seen in the past, wpial officials would have allowed a lot of the calls that were made last night to be no calls. Kids and coaches have to adjust to officiating styles. Perhaps a call or two last night could have been intentional calls and were not. Outside of that, I don't think the game was called that bad. CT had lost opportunities and missed a few too many close range shots. It wasn't their night. Shades shooting was hot. Entertaining game. Great crowd promoted a great atmosphere. Good luck to both teams in districts and beyond.
Have to give kiddos on a couple of something's that I saw that wasn't affiliated with action on the floor.
1. Really neat that the portage student section sang the alma mater when the game was over - now that is school pride. Way to go portage students!
2. The young lady that sang the NA for the boys game was spectacular!
3. All 4 teams that played last night left it all go on the floor and played with a great deal of heart. Great games by all team members from portage, Berlin, CT and shade. I hope you are all district champions!
