West Pac Preview

Although their has been someone doing this for the past few years I have not seen him on the site as of late, therefore I will do
a short preview of the West Pac through my eyes only and someone else can feel free to add their opinions. I will not be pointing out
individual's by name in an effort to keep it short.

Portage at North Star
Portage is hyped as being the best team in the west pac this year and with the likes of some of their skill players and the
developing line, they could have the year most are predicting. Depth is an issue with both these squads. NS counters with
excellent skill players of there own mixed in with some quality returning lineman. Portage will have the edge in both the passing
and running game. Prediction Portage 35-21

Berlin at CT
Berlins defense will be tough. CT's offense can be explosive at times. Berlin must contain the QB from CT. CT will need to try
to neutralize the line of the Mountaineers. Berlin sports an up and coming offensive threat at running back which all will see
on Friday. Prediction Berlin 35-14

Shade at Windber
Windber much like Portage is a heavy favorite this year in contention with the west pac. They arguably have the deepest and
most experienced set of skill guys coming back which should make them quite the offensive power. They lost the majority of
their line but have seemed to reload quite nicely based on their scrimmage results. Shade is rather small and lost a ton of
talent from last years playoff team. I think Shade will need a few games to find out who they are. This will not be that game
Prediction Windber 52-6

Ferndale @ Conemaugh Valley
Two programs rebuilding. Numbers are down on both sides. New coach for Ferndale will have his hands full. CV made improvements
last year and I look for them to continue to do so. Prediction CV 27-7

Meyersdale@Blacklick
Can Meyersdale turn the corner this year? Meyersdale has a pile of starters returning on both sides of the ball. Their Tailback is a big
boy and their line big across the board. They have all the tools to start the season out by making some noise. BLV lost their big gun
and will need to find someone to replace him. Don't count BLV out of this one as they have had some success in the past few years
and that generally spills over to the underclassman. This has the potential to be the best West Pac game of week one.
Prediction Meyersdale 21-13

Chief, Good preview. I wouldn't be suprised to see North Star knock off Portage. N.S. has alot back on the lines and their running backs and defense are good. Berlin has alot of inexperience on their O line but they have better speed than CT. Shade lost too much from last year and are probably in for a long year. I think Meyersdale will be much better than last year. They have a good group of seniors and are tough up front. Let's just hope that Ferndale can make it through the whole season with their low numbers. It would really be bad to lose 2 programs this year.

Ferndale has been up against it numbers wise for many years, yet manage to always show up and give it there all. You have to respect
the kids and their resilience.

Should be a good one in Portage friday night. However Portage also returns almost their whole line on Offense and Defense, all our big time RB's are back. Only place the mustangs are somewhat inexperienced is DB and QB. I've heard through others that North Star has lost one of their lineman for a period of time due to a unfortunate Grilling accident where he was burned, not sure if anyone can shine anymore light on that.

North Star @ Portage: All of North Stars' lineman are returning seniors, according too the newspaper. I wouldn't count North Star out of it with their returning Quarterback, Halfback, Fullback, whole Offensive line, with a powerful defense.

Although Portage is going too be tough as well, with really good Tailbacks and a good defense. I see them being a FORCE this year, with high expectations.

I SAY PORTAGE- 21! North Star-14!

Berlin @ Conemaugh Township: Berlin will be a threat too all Westpac teams this year. With Berlin losing their Quarterback last year, I see them running with the pigskin. With Taylor Cahill and the Footchmans' alone will be a force on both sides.

Conemaugh Township losing Cahill will definitely hurt. Especially losing their star wide receiver Ken Domonkos. But Conemaugh Township has returning Quarterback Bruno Rosa who might be their only hope for any success this year. I don't see this game being close at all.

I SAY BERLIN- 49! CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP-7!

Wuz up Chief? Was wondering who the up and coming offensive threat is that you speak of? Also, I may be mistaken as to your identity but might a change in username be in order? Maybe you're not who I'm thinking you are..

North Star started off very strong against Portage, it was still 0-0 with about 4 minutes left in the half until a deep pass to Kephart and 3 straight turnovers by North Star changed the whole game. Surprisingly, Portage looked very good throwing the ball.
