guys or girls?
They play lots of teams in their league because it is their league, so I am not sure what you meant by that either. They are in the Juniata Valley League.
Boys teams of the past played run and gun and shot about 30 three pointers per game...

The first thing you'll notice about their boys team is absolutely no size. They generally play with four guards and rely on good shooting and defense---yes defense as the circus that was Juniata Valley basketball for the last three or four years has left town. Young, first year coach Jason Anders has done a whale of a job in installing his system and the kids have bought into it.
When I saw them earlier in the year, I thought they would be a 500 team at best---but they play extremely hard at both ends of the court and their overall hustle and speed make up for the lack of an inside game as they usually hold their own against taller opponents on the boards. They have an exceptional transition game and still shoot the three a lot. The difference this year is that they'll work for the shot rather than throw it up from half court every trip.
A team will have to play hard to beat them---and strange to say, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost in the first round and I wouldn't be surprised if they won a D6 championship---I have to figure they'll have severe match-up problems with some teams.

If it's the girls team I can only say this. I watched them totally dismantle Ferndales girls last year...a team that many in Jacket land thought had a shot at a D6 title. They were definately well coached and fundamnetally sound. Probably the most consistent team I saw all year. Not sure what they have this year or if the same coach is there but if so, I wouldn't take them lightly.

The girls also have a new coach this year although the former coach is lending a hand from time to time. Her growing family responsibilities just prevented her from handling the duties full time.
Jama Green is a rookie head coach also. She was an assisstant last year at JV so the transition was smooth as the girls are having another nice year. (17-4) She's young and the girls seem to really like her and play equally hard as the boys.
The girls are lead by junior guard Claudia McDowell. Very nice all-around player with deceptive quickness. Creates very well and is unselfish but will put the team on her back if she has to.
Freshman six footer Desiree Reed has been outstanding for her age in the low post. A lot of natural ability and will only continue to get better.
They also get solid, solid efforts every night from Walters, Heaster, and Curley (Penn St. athletic directors daughter) but I think one of the real keys to their future success is the emergence of guard Abby Mower. She's starting to come into her own and is a nice compliment to McDowell in the backcourt. With her being able to take some heat off of Claudia against pressure, we're really hoping for a return trip to the D6 title game. I think they might be a year away from being really good but there's nothing like getting the experience of that game.

I didn't think there was actually a person on here from Valley. Anyways, I just want to comment on the girls season. The new coach did a good job this year and is really a nice person. The girls did play aau with her the past year but other then that it was all new. Whats good about her is that she is young enought to relate to the girls and my friends that play, really like her. The JV girls had a good season, but the playoffs didn't go to well with Claudia being hurt. I have played with 3 girls on the Valley team: including Claudia McDowell, Desiree Reed, and Casey Lane all in AAU basketball and I really believe if they set there minds to it they will have another good season next year, because I know how all of them can play! As far as the other members on the team you ladies did a great job this season and should have advanced farther, but congradulations on the season that you had!
