Our site is currently down, so this week's rankings will be posted here on Bleachercoaches. Obviously weather played a role last week, and it will this week.
AAA
1. Somerset 10-7 - Somerset went 1-1 last week with a rough loss to a very good Bishop Carroll team and a 13 point road win over Penn Cambria. The Golden Eagles have won four of five overall, and have a few big games ahead. There is only one game on the schedule this week, and that will be with Bishop McCort. It is always a lively atmosphere when the Crimson Crushers come to town, and it could be a great way to make a statement, especially having blown a 20 point halftime lead in the first meeting.
2. Huntingdon 10-5 - Huntingdon scored a win over then number one ranked AA team, Bald Eagle, last week, and that moves them up in the rankings. The Bearcats went 2-0 last week, but this week will be quite the challenge. They play at Tyrone and host a one loss Penns Valley team.
3. Johnstown 7-7 - The Trojans split their two games last week. They handled Forest Hills at home, and dropped one to a good New Hope Charter team from York, PA. Johnstown lost by 14, and actually held an early 12 point lead. Johnstown is a growing team, and they have a chance for a big week coming up. With three games on the schedule, Johnstown has a great chance to beat Bedford and Westmont before a city showdown with Bishop McCort Saturday night. Johnstown is looking to avoid a fourth straight loss to their neighbors.
AA
1. Penns Valley 13-1 - Penns Valley improved on their top record with a 3-0 week and move into the top spot for the first time this year. Beating Bald Eagle on the road by six was an impressive win, and their best one to date. They have a big week again with three games scheduled. They will take on Central on the road, before hosting Huntingdon and Cambria Heights to close out the week.
2. Blairsville 11-1 - The Bobcats have the gaudy record, but today is the day we fine out if they are for real. Blairsville will go into a hostile environment to take on a very good Homer Center team. They also have to travel to Northern Cambria, and play host to Purchase Line.
3. Richland 13-2 - After a disappointing loss to Johnstown two weeks ago, Richland responded with a sound three win week. The most impressive of those three came against AAAA Hollidaysburg, as the Rams beat them by 18. Richland has two city rivalry games this week, one with Westmont on the road, where Richland was upset last year. They also host Bishop McCort on Thursday in what will have huge LHAC section II implications.
4. Tyrone 13-3 - Tyrone came out and handled business with no problems. They held two teams under 30, including a 72-25 thrashing of a well regarded Tussey Mountain program. If Tyrone can keep that kind of pace rolling, they will be scary come playoff time. A road trip to Huntingdon and a showdown at home with Central are the two games slated this week.
5. Bishop McCort 10-4 - McCort had a solid 2-1 week, with their lone loss coming to a good New Hope Charter. Other than that, the Crushers have really played better in recent weeks. We will find a lot out about this team this upcoming week as the Crushers have three massive games all against rivals. McCort hits Somerset and Richland, before a home game with Johnstown. A 2 or 3 win week would be very impressive.
A
1. Bishop Carroll 14-0 - The Huskies continue to keep it rolling with multiple 20 point wins over Somerset and Westmont. This week should be an easy one, as they play host to Cambria Heights, and travel to Forest Hills and North Star. The three teams have 12 wins combined.
2. Bishop Guilfoyle 12-2 - The Marauders stepped up and went 3-0 following a tough loss to Bishop Carroll. The Marauders are certainly better than some of us expected, and they will continue to look ahead to the February 10 rematch with BC. They have two road games this week at Forest Hills and Central Cambria.
3. Homer Center 15-1 - The Wildcats had three sound victories last week, and look more than ready for the prime time Monday night showdown with Blairsville. Both teams bring in one loss records, and will be the first of two big time showdowns. Homer's home court advantage could be the deciding factors in this one. They also have a game with Saltsburg at home, and United on the road.
4. Portage 14-2 - The Mustangs lost one to a good Shanksville team on the road, but two wins to close out for the week make up for it. Portage continues to impress, but this week will be a telling week. They travel to Northern Cambria tonight, and host Shade later in the week. Also, a road game against Windber Friday night will be a big one.
5. Juniata Valley 14-3 - Its hard to ignore the big loss to BG, but it's also hard to ignore the 14 wins too. This is a good, veteran team and they will respond from that loss and get better. A road game to Bellwood and home date with Claysburg is on the slate this week. Claysburg should be a good test for the Hornets.
