Week one in the ICC

Post by rainmaker »

I stopped doing these last season and wanted to get back into it.

Juniata Valley @ Southern Huntingdon

One team has a new coach and lost a lot of lettermen. The other team has a lot of kids back. The first team has had lots of recent success and the second team has been way down. Call me crazy, but I think Southern Huntingdon starts off the season with a win here and I think they can win 4-5 games. Maysonet is the leading returner for JV and SH returns the Carowick's, Vaughn, Parks, and Woodward.

SH 22 - JV 12

Northern Bedford @ Glendale
NBC lost two huge contributors in Blake Over and Kyler Diehl, but they were a young team a year ago. They return Dasher, Heck, and Brallier and those guys all did some things for them offensively. With so few seniors a year ago, they also have to return a lot of guys on the line. Glendale lost a lot of what they had from a year ago and they are under a new coach again in Gary Walstrom. The Vikings have a guy who could develop into a potential stud for them in Shea O'Donnell. He is a big kid and could have a nice year for them. I think the experience for NB will be the difference here.

NBC 21 - Glendale 6

Claysburg @ Williamsburg
The Blue Pirates were the talk of the town last year and there is reason for optimism again this year. Shaw, Young, and Biddle return to an offense that should be able to put up some points. If the quarterback play can be decent, then Williamsburg could possibly repeat what they did a year ago. I have them winning 5 or 6 games. Claysburg returns Johnson who came on the scene last year when their starting RB went down. Johnson didn't disappoint and had a terrific season. I think Claysburg doesn't have enough offense to keep up with Williamsburg in this one.

Williamsburg 32 - Claysburg 20

Mo Valley @ Bald Eagle
If the Black Knights can keep it together after a potential rough start to the year I think they could finish strong. They have a really tough early season schedule though and it begins week one with a trip to Bald Eagle. Sherkel is a terrific player for MV and he could have a really nice season. I don't know much about BEA other than they are supposed to be pretty tough and they are AA.

Give me BEA 28 - MV 13

West Branch @ P-O
I read on here that West Branch has like 17 guys. That is so sad. I thought they would bring up enough 9th graders to make sure they can complete a season. I think they play hard and respect the kids they have that play. I don't think they'll be able to keep up with P-O though.

P-O 36 - West Branch 13

Everett @ Chestnut Ridge

Everett has a new coach and they are an intriguing team. They return Sheaffer and Jay. I really think Kyle Sheaffer could have a breakout year for the Warriors. I think they will win 6 or more games this season but week one won't be one of them. Ridge will be too much for the Warriors with their physical play. Everett does not return much up front from what I have heard.

CR 28 - Eve 13

Huntingdon @ Mount Union
If there is a team that can beat Bellwood it is Mount Union. These guys are fast and they are big and they are experienced. This is a team that could have a story book season and it starts week one against rival Huntingdon. Walker shows off everything he can do and Mt Union starts off with a big week one win.

MU 33 - Hunt 14

Central @ Tussey Mountain
Tussey Mountain is the returning District 5 A champion and they return some big pieces from that team in Dan Taylor and Quinn Barnett. If they can find a few more pieces, they'll once again contend for the championship. Taylor is a terrific talent and can really make people miss. Central is the returning D6AA champion. They have to replace a lot of seniors but I think they'll be too much for the Titans and will show they play at a different level week to week. If TM had more lineman coming back then I think they would really have a shot in this one.

Central 40 - Tussey Mountain 27

Game of the Week: Bellwood @ Tyrone
This is usually the only regular season game that Bellwood has the potential to lose. They have to replace a lot of guys last year but by returning their QB Burch they are already ahead of the game. This allows them to break in a new back after losing Gray. Enough talent is back for Bellwood to allow them to compete with the Golden Eagles in week one. I don't know if they'll have the fire power to score much on what should be a great Tyrone defense. Tyrone should be really good and so should Bellwood. I think Tyrone will win this one by more than a score.

Tyrone 28 - Bellwood 7
