United
I just saw that United fired Lance Holupka from head coach and named Scott Boring as the interim coach. Does anyone know why? I assume performance is a part of it, but why wait until a thursday?

Re: United
And why has the school refused (According to 106.3) to release the reason?PLDragons24 wrote:I just saw that United fired Lance Holupka from head coach and named Scott Boring as the interim coach. Does anyone know why? I assume performance is a part of it, but why wait until a thursday?

Re: United
I've seen two stories now. One saying it was a personnel problem and the other said something about selling lantzy tickets. Both claim it wasn't about wins or loses. Both also said he is not allowed on school property or in contact with any students so it must have been something serious.
Re: United
When was the last season that United was relevant in the D6 playoffs? Seems like a program that has fallen and can not get out of the cellar. I remember hearing people talk about the farmboys they had and always being a smash mouth team. Wasn't the defensive player of the year from United one year?
Re: United
IIRC, United knocked Tyrone out of the playoffs in 1998. I know they had another season or two within the last decade or so that they weren't awful, but it's been a long four or five seasons for the Lions.
I feel bad for coach Mack. Great guy and he was really excited to run United's offense. I always hate to see something like this pop up midseason. It has to be really hard on the kids, especially

Re: United
They went 8-1 in 2009 and made playoffs in 2010 but it went all down hill after that. They have young kids that can play but they just have absolutely no confidence. It's impossible to win when you don't think you can.
Re: United
It is also rare to win if you're not as good as your opponents.
According to today's Tribune Democrap one possible reason given by the ousted United coach for his suspension was that he was playing kids at positions that they were unprepared to play. If that doesn't sound like some parent with too much influence was upset that his kid ended up playing on the line, I don't know what it is.
If it is not safe for United to take the field, its superintendent or principal should pull the plug on the rest of its season.

Re: United
Why would United pull the plug if they have 38 kids on the roster? The only team in the heritage under 30 kids is Saltsburg with 29. None of the teams are in danger of not being able to field a team.
Re: United
The ousted coach of United said he may have been fired for playing kids out of position. That sounds like a safety issue to me.

Re: United
He also said that wasn't true. To me it sounds like he benched a kid and I bet he got in an arguement with either that kid or the parents and he probably said something inappropriate. United is not a school that fires and hires coaches at will and definitely are not the type of school to fire a coach in the middle of the season, let alone the day before a game. So my bet is he did/said something very unacceptable.
