I'm pulling for a long shot third meeting of Shade and Meyersdale in the finals.
Why does District 5 still exist?

Because the district is actually a decent size. It seems really small because of the lack of football teams, but there are a lot of schools that are competitive in other sports that don't have a football team. Shanksville, Rockwood, Turkeyfoot, Salisbury, Hyndman, Southern Fulton, McConnelsburg, Fannet Metal, and Forbes Road I believe are all D5 schools without a football team

And if your referring to competition, Tussey played 2 favorites in D6AA down to the wire (Central and MU). Both TM and Berlin could compete with anyone in D6A that doesn't start with Bishop.

Why won't district 6 let teams leave that want to leave and have requested to get out?
I often wonder that. Why keep someone that doesn't want in?
Anyway, I don't want to go there. This thread is to discuss the 5A playoffs!

The PIAA should either redraw the districts or eliminate them. You can't choose where you are located, nor should you be able to choose which district you can play it, ie, flee the Bishops. Ridiculous suggestion in my opinion. As is, the D5 playoffs should be 1 vs 2 and last one week.

There's no reason that District 5 should be eliminated. In football they could use more teams but in every other sport they have plenty of schools and are competitive.

So you're saying 7-3 Meyersdale or 6-4 Shade don't deserve a playoff spot? With that logic D6 should only take 4 teams in their A and AA bracket.
I would argue that D5 A and AA is every bit as strong as D6 this year. Berlin, TM, CR, Bedford, Everett, and Meyersdale all would play competitively in their respective D6 brackets. Also, technically Somerset is a D5 school. Outside of BG, the rest of these schools are very close...

D6 should only take four teams and the WPIAL eight.
If the PIAA operated in the best interest of the student athletes, football season would be over by Thanksgiving

I absolutely agree, but we all know that will never happen. The larger the football playoff field, the larger the purse!
The teams that make it to Hershey will have been at it for 4 months since the first practice; basically the entire first semester.
