Public vs Private PIAA Playoffs by the Numbers

Every year this comes up and every year the private schools get worse and worse. So lets track it through the PIAA playoffs. Let me know if I missed any private schools because they are so many to keep track of.

Clarification - you have many public schools listed here. Some of which are charter schools (e.g. Lincoln, Imhotep, etc.) while others are truly public/magnet schools albeit with different boundary limitations in some cases (e.g. Erie Central Tech, Constitution, Math/Civics/Science).

Well, for the past X number of years, many of us have been lobbying for the Catholics and Privates to have their own playoffs. In an odd perverse kind of way, that's how it's shaping up. GOD bless all the publics.

Publics can keep the public ally funded charter schools when the separation happens, I don't know what fans of public schools would do if they didn't have a set of schools to complain about year round.

Realizing the author titled the topic Public v. Private but just to clarify for the 'hair splitters' in this on going debate, the discussion has long switched from private v. public to boundary v. non-boundary schools.

We shall see how long it takes until the non-boundary schools who don't recruit get tired of losing to the non-boundary schools who do recruit (i.e. Neumann-Goretti, the Archbishops of Philly, and the ever growing throng of Charter schools), and they join the complaining group.

Want to see the full extent of the issue look up Impact Academy. The PIAA should be embarrassed. I would like to see two different brackets or just put all the privates on one side and all the publics on the other. That way you have a public champ and a private champ and then they play each other for the state championship. That way the PIAA still gets there money and all is fair

It's an embarrassment but the PIAA has no interest in doing anything about it.

I went to the Farrell/Kennedy Catholic District X final. You could not get a seat at Slippery Rock U for that game. Standing room only. Scores of people were turned away from the venue. Now, the PIAA is all about making money. As long as you get packed houses to see private schools/charter schools play games, and the PIAA is reaping in profits, the situation will never change. This argument has been going on for 40 years. When the cash flow dries up in these championship games. When crickets can be heard chirping when the charters/privates have no fan attendance, then and only then will the PIAA do something. This organization will react when they are not turning a profit and are losing money. Until then, traditional public schools, get ready to take your beating.

So isn't putting all the privates on one side of the bracket and all the publics on the other a reasonable change. PIAA still gets there profits and publics can not cry about the tourney not being fair

If my counting is correct, I believe in the single A tournament privates represent 8/16 boys and 8/16 girls
