West Pac Week # 10 Predictions   (YTD---40-5)

Ferndale (0-9) @ Windber (2-7)

I hope the new classification thing that is going into effect will help Ferndale out by pitting them against some teams they might be competitive with.   Ferndale did in fact have some good moments last week while playing CT.   They were in the game until near the end of the 3[sup]rd[/sup] quarter.   Windber should roll and finish the season on a good note.

Prediction Windber 42-6

North Star (2-7) @ Blacklick Valley (3-6)

In round one this year Blacklick won by a couple scores.   After getting handled last week Blacklick might still be reeling.   North Star has gotten a little better as the season progressed and I think Blacklick got a little worse.   That being said I will go with a minor upset and say NS gets it done.

Prediction North Star 21-20

Shade (4-5) @ Meyersdale (5-4)

This one should be a good one.   Much the same as the game mentioned above this one should be a bit closer than the first contest where Meyersdale handled Shade.   Shade seems to be a bit healthier as a team and this should make things more interesting.   Shade struggles with the passing game and Meyersdale struggles with turnovers.   I still think Meyersdale is a better team all around.   This game shouldn’t impact the playoffs next week no matter who gets the W so they can let it rip.  If I am not mistaken I believe these two teams will meet up for a third time next week.

Prediction Meyersdale 35-21

Conemaugh Valley (5-4) @ Conemaugh Township (7-2)

Another good game looming here as CT beat CV by one score in their earlier meeting.     I look for CV to battle the Indians as hard as they have battled anyone else this year with a potential playoff spot looming for them in District 6.   CT was not real impressive against Ferndale.  I will have to go with CV in a close one

Prediction CV 21-20

Portage (8-1) @ Berlin (9-0)

I think this one will be another classic between these two teams.   Their first meeting was a bit closer than what the scoreboard indicated.   Portage was in position to score a few times and imploded.   This one could very well come down to the wire.   Berlin’s defense has been playing very aggressive and if they continue this trend they should be able to control the game to a point.   Although history tells us this game could go either way and should be a close game I will go with the mountain men.

Prediction Berlin 42-21

Interesting sideshow in the rematch of the Conemaughs is that the area rushing title is on the line.  This probably matters more to the two coaches who continue to give their top running backs way too many carries per game than it does the players.  Will this game be coached with that in mind?

Valley should have over 100 in tackles

I disagree with this idea.
Galasso averages about 27 carries a game and Myers averages about 31 carries a game.  I think this is ok.  If the average were 35+ then that starts to be excessive.  When an offense runs 50-55 plays a game I think it is ok for one player to get that many carries in each and don't feel it is excessive.
This keeps the clock going and it keeps them in games.

They average more tackles through the air than yards under water...true fact

Myers 39 carries for 180 yards. For the season that's 310 for 1900.

Galasso 28 carries for 173 yards. 277 for 1886.

Shadoe Smith 33 for 354. 243 for 1880.

Despite not playing yesterday Conemaugh Valley's Hunter Bizjak added eight tackles including 5.5 solo tackles to his area leading total.

Ferndale would benefit from reclassification but need a better coaching staff top to bottom to get a very talented group of young kids going in the right direction. Now having said that, another program killer is if the school Admin stays their nose out of a head mans good intentions to turn it around the way football should be run, instead of running scared of player parents wants, of what and what not their kid is going to put into being a football player in high school.

Reclassification is not going to do anything to help Ferndale. Teams like BG and Clariton are still going to be in the smallest class. Ferndale is going to play the exact same teams that they played this year and the year before that. It is time to go the way of Rockwood and joinup with another school.

Where and how would Ferndale find a better coaching staff?  If you read this board regularly there are only a handful of talented coaches out there and the rest are in the stands watching their kids play.
