so you're going to go on a vague one line sentence in a document filed by an insurance company trying to get out of paying 60 million dollars to cover the money PSU forked out, claiming that someone said they told paterno in 1976 that they were sexually abused plus 2 unnamed asst coaches statements... RFLMOA!  Wait, I'm not done...so this person went straight to JOE PATERNO instead of anyone else!?!?  I mean, parents, police, noboby else...a child walked right up to JOE PATERNO and say they were abused!  BWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAHHHAAAAA

I will say, this little nugget of news doesn't change my opinion on Paterno.

It's fuc$ing bull$hit and you know it. What a coincidence something like this comes out just a day after a judge granted another hearing for Sandusky. This is pure BS. no way does some 40 or 50 year old suddenly come out of the woodwork after 4 years .....Joe would have clocked sandusky from day one if that were the case....not to mention in 1976 the PSU brand wasn't much to hollar about, nothing to protect....again, do you really thing some kid walked right up to ONLY JOE and said he was abused???? You're a moron if you do

People are going to believe what they are going to believe, this report shouldn't change much. 2011 was pretty damning for all parties involved. I'm not sure if anything in this article is true, but I would never give Paterno the benefit of the doubt after his own words admitting he wished he'd done more.

Between the devastating Altoona-Johnstown diocese report of last month, and everything that Sandusky did with a similar blanket of security PSU gave him, it's just really sad a lot of people suffered a lot in our own backyard for decades.

If you are a devout Catholic/Penn State supporter, must be a really difficult past few years. I just feel bad this all had to happen in our region. Two institutions that hit really close to home for a lot of people just didn't live up to the standards they always preache.

I'm not gonna rehash this whole this with you...but the entire case against PSU and Paterno has fallen to pieces...jerry did whatever he did without help or any coverup.

You don't have to rehash anything. I know Jerry Sandusky had a key to Penn State until he was arrested, and frankly that's all anyone should need to know. 

Theory A: A convicted pedophile had violated other children earlier than known.

Theory B: Insurance company just doesn't want to pay $60 million.

Interesting how many will still defend the pedophile.

After reading more into this... the JoePa supporters really don't have much of a leg to stand on.

This isn't 'new' evidence. And this isn't from a lawyer for the insurance company. The claim of an incident in 1976 is penned in the opinion of a judge recently regarding one of the cases involving Penn State.

And here's the kicker: The 1976 victim made the accusation and Penn State settled with the victim.

The former defensive coach's own 2012 trial centered only on sex attacks that dated back a decade or so and that were prosecutable under the statute of limitations. Dozens more accusers have since filed claims in civil court.

The university has never disclosed the full range of allegations by about 30 Sandusky accusers with whom it reached settlements. In 2013, officials said Penn State had reached settlements totaling $60 million with 26 victims. A separate batch of cases was settled last year without specifying the number of victims or payout amount.

Those included one accuser who was a child when he allegedly told Paterno in 1976 that Sandusky molested him, and another whose report of abuse was referred in 1988 to Penn State's then-athletic director, according to the opinion.

So, this isn't just sour grapes by the insurance company. This isn't just a baseless claim. This was a claim against Penn State that they settled. Of which, the settlement was known to the court and used in one of those recently settled claims as part of the opinion of the judge.

It's that settlement that the insurance company is using to say this happened much earlier than Penn State alleges, and therefore they shouldn't be on the hook.

So, again, JoePa and PSU fans. Just be quiet and lick your wounds. Fighting it just makes it worse.

sorry sykotyk, but this is pure bs...these are claims made by ALLEGED victims that never went to a trial. They simply walked up to PSU, claimed to be abused and got their check written. This was the most ridiculous process ever. and again I ask you, how the hell does a child, in 1976, get a private audience with ONLY Joe Paterno, to tell him a nobody at the time asst coach sexually abused him? and ONLY Joe Paterno, Never told a parent, police, friend, teacher...ONLY JOE?? This child somehow managed a private audience with the PSU head coach????and they NEVER came forward during the trials?  that is about as ludicrous a story as I've ever heard. Not to mention at the time Joe had 4 young children of his own. He'd have fired JS on the spot, JS wasn't even a defensive co. in 76...this is all from an insurance company that doesn't want to pay PSU the 60 million they are asking for to cover their ridiculous payoffs. It isn't the PSU fans who don't have a leg to stand on, it's those that just beg for all this to be true who seem to refuse to look past their hatred for PSU and Paterno to see the truth.

As for you Jim, Jerry didn't need a key in the 80s, everything was unlocked back then. You could literally walk into any building.  the key meant nothing.....and Joe paterno said 'WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT"..YES, if he knew then what he'd learned now...with the benefit of hindsight I'd have worn earplugs for the 20 years I was a sound tech and I wouldn't be half deaf now.   you guys always seem to forget that part.
