ICC Week 7

5-1 last week and 26-12 overall now. Only miss was Southern’s win over West Branch. Nailed the Claysburg homecoming upset of Everett and Valley’s toss up win over Northern. A has been the case this year, some more interesting games this year and possibilities for upsets. It’s been as balance a league as I can recall. Bellwood and Mount Union remain the top two teams but who is the real #3? Based on last week maybe Southern Huntingdon or Juniata Valley?
Mount Union at Everett – Everett needed to maintain their recent momentum last week but could not. Mount Union continues to just win. This could be a real test for the Trojans but I think they have tough enough defense to hold the Warriors in check. If they don’t get hit by the turnover bug look for Mount Union to pull away in this one. Mount Union 35 Everett 14.
Williamsburg at Northern Bedford – Williamsburg has been playing pretty well and hung tough for a half with Bellwood last week. Northern once again won the statistical battle but lost on the scoreboard. Certainly the odds and the football gods have to shine upon the Panthers sometime again don’t they? NBC got hot last October. Can they duplicate that? Things finally go the Panthers way this week at home. Northern 34 Williamsburg 15.
Mo Valley at Glendale – Mo Valley struggled last week to beat Tussey. This week they travel to the other winless ICC squad. Could this be a trap? Is a huge upset on the horizon in Flinton? No….Coach Keith gets the Black Knights refocused after the near disaster last week. Glendale remains competitive for a half but then….. Mo Valley 42 Glendale 12.
Bellwood at West Branch – Bellwood can’t afford to take a deep breath and relax. A trip North will not be easy for the Blue Devils who are a big target for the ICC wannabees each week. Once again, it’s not out of the question for an upset to occur but I can’t bring myself to predict it. I will say that West Branch will play very well early on and as long as Bellwood weathers that storm, they take over behind the strong arm of Tanneyhill. Bellwood 30 West Branch 20.
Southern Huntingdon at Tussey Mountain – Both these teams are improving. TM took Mo Valley to the limit last week, Southern has won two in a row albeit they’ve been home games and they travel to Saxton this week. I really envy the competitiveness the Titans have shown and I’m also impressed with Southern’s rebound after 3 consecutive tough losses to get back to .500. Bottom line is Southern has the better football players right now and should be able to win their third straight. Southern 21 Tussey 12.
Juniata Valley at Claysburg - This is a tough game to pick. Claysburg may be on the rise. Valley is a hard nosed, tough outfit that finds a way to win close games. I look for Valley to move to 5-2 and perhaps the #3 spot in the league. JV 26 Claysburg 24.
