2003-04 All-PSAC Men's Basketball Teams Announced

Anthony Frazier of Cheyney and Michael Johnson of California have been named the 2003-04 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern and Western Division Men’s Basketball Athletes of the Year, respectively, in voting done by the league's coaches. The remaining Eastern Division awards went to Ryan Nenstiel of Bloomsburg as the top Rookie, while Dick DeLaney was named as the Coach of the Year. California earned a clean sweep of the Western Division awards. Sharif Bray was the West’s Rookie of the Year and Bill Brown was named the Coach of the Year.
Johnson, a senior guard/forward from Pittsburgh, has served as a versatile player for the Vulcans. He averaged 12.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, and also totaled 60 assists, 44 steals and 32 blocks. He ranked third in the West and ninth overall in shooting percentage at 53.2% (132-248). He also canned 21 shots from the 3-point line. Johnson was a second-team selection a year ago.
Frazier, a senior forward from Philadelphia, enjoyed another outstanding season in a stellar career at Cheyney. He ranked third in the league in scoring (18.1 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and fifth in steals (1.96 spg). He registered seven double-doubles on the year and has helped lead Cheyney to the NCAA playoffs as the East Region’s No. 5 seed. Frazier is the only player among this year’s group to earn PSAC First Team honors all four seasons.
Bray, a freshman from Philadelphia, led all freshman in scoring with 12.4 points per game, which ranked 19th overall. He also ranked among the league leaders in free throw percentage (77.1% - 11th), 3-point field goal percentage (42.6% - 4th) and 3-pointers made per game (1.69 - 14th). Most recently, Bray scored a game-high 32 points in a PSAC semifinal loss to Kutztown, a season-high for the freshman. Bray was the only freshman to earn All-PSAC honors, collecting a spot on the second team.
Nenstiel, a freshman from Nuremburg, had a standout rookie campaign. An accomplished 3-point shooter, he ranked second in the league with a 44.5% success rate from behind the arc. In addition, he was second in the league with 2.41 3-pointers per game (65 total). Nenstiel was fourth among league freshman with an 11.2 points per game average.
Brown, in his eighth year at California, led the Vulcans to a PSAC Western Division title with an 11-1 league mark. Overall Brown’s squad stands at 23-6 and the No. 4 team in the East Regional heading into the NCAA playoffs. Brown is 175-59 in his tenure at California, and 335-197 in 18 years overall. The Western Division award is the third for Brown.
DeLaney completed his 17th year at West Chester and now carries an impressive 306-166 overall record. Despite the loss of two-time Eastern Division Player of the Year Ramzee Stanton and only one returning starter, the Golden Rams managed to register a 16-12 record and the No. 4 seed from the Eastern Division. The award is DeLaney’s fourth as Eastern Division Coach of the Year.
