We knew it was going to happen, but what a wonderful feeling it is to have it official. This guy may have been the most overrated player in the history of the NFL. And you can't believe his stats either. For some reason, this guy would get credit for a tackle or sack for merely falling on the pile after the tackle was made. I know, I watched and did my own stats on him. The guy was afraid of contact, and that was evident in just watching him. For the non-believers out there, think about this. The guy hadn't missed a start in a lot of playing time (I can't remember the last time he missed a start). Pro football is a violent sport, and a linebacker is bound to get hurt if he's playing hard.

Im glad they got rid of him also, he is old, and it opens up the whole field for players that would have been spot guys before to become full time starters... Larry Foote being one of them.

Ya. i always like gildon. but i dont feel remorse in letting him go. Hes old, his time has past, lets get some young kid in there to tear it up.

I think that Gildon is just getting old as well...I don't know of where he'll end up now....but the Steelers did good in releasing him, just need to find someone good to step up and play there....they might have that person on the bench, but I don't think.....Gildon didnt do too much last year, neither did the rest of the Steelers D, so its time to rebuild and thats what their doing now....Just hope they do the right thing at the Quarterback position, and sit "Tommy Gun" on the bench..and put Roethlisberger in there......I dont think that Maddox can play there, hes OLD, kinda like Gildon, maybe they will release him too, there again, like Gildon........but who are the Steelers bench LB's?

The Steelers have several good bench linebackers that have seen situational playing and have had spot starts when others needed breaks. Just to name a few...Alonzo Jackson from FSU, this will be his 2nd year; Larry Foote from Michigan, 3rd year; and Clint Kriewaldt from Wisconsin-Seven Points in his 7th year. Clark Haggins will more than likely step in as the outside backer for the Steelers, with Farrior and Bell in the middle and Porter on the outside defensive right.

The interior line and linebacking crew is not the problem for the boys in black and gold, it is, as everybody knows, the secondary, and they have made several changes in it, but I dont follow that all that much because the only way to judge talent in the defensive backfield is game time experience. Hopefully it is much improved and the offense does something more offensive(in a good way) this year.
