Boise State in a BCS game?!?!?!?!

The new rankings are out with Boise State moved up to 7th. If a loss by Auburn, Oklahoma, or Texas hurts too bad in their respective championship games, then Boise could move up to the top 6 and would then be GUARANTEED a spot in the BCS picture. Utah is done, so they won't move down (and they have a good BCS score percentage-wise). A huge win over Nevada on ESPN this weekend would help Boise. I just don't think anyone could drop from that top 6 as of now except for Texas. A late loss by undefeated Auburn or Okie wouldn't kill them, but another Texas loss somewhere could knock them down a few spots making room for Boise. This could get reallllll interesting....

It's very doubtful that would happen. Even if Boise State makes the top 6, there are no guarentees. I believe that if two non BCS conference teams make the top 6, then only one has to be guarenteed a spot in a BCS bowl. I think that would be Utah.
I know this is off topic, but Boise State is way overrated. They don't have a defense and they play teams too close, teams that they should be beating by about 3 or 4 TDs. But anyways....
I think Utah will get the BCS bid, and Boise State will take the place of the MidWest champion in the Liberty bowl, where the Broncos will likely square off against the Louisville Cardinals. This game would match the top two scoring offenses in college football. Now that would be interesting...

Why should Boise State be beating those teams by 3-4 touchdowns? The defense isn't as good as they have been previously, but is good enough to go undefeated. Once again: Boise State is not a team like USC or Oklahoma who has 2-3 lines deep on the depth chart that can beat WAC opponents. They win every one of their games, it doesn't matter how they do it. Are they undefeated? Do they win close games? Do they have the longest winning streak in the country? It is not the same kind of argument as it would be if Oklahoma had dropped into the WAC this season, and was only beating Tulsa and Nevada by field goals. You cannot apply the same kind of "blowout rule" to these teams in the smaller conferences. I don't know what it's going to take to get this through your head, fleaflicker, but Boise State IS ALSO A WAC TEAM JUST LIKE THE TEAMS THEY PLAY. They aren't a team from the SEC playing a C-USA schedule! You have to give these teams some benefit of the doubt. If you don't, you eliminate part of the ladder concept of college football. You don't wake up one day and start beating all your peers by 4 touchdowns. That has to happen over time, as coaches and players and programs build. Boise is the best team in the WAC, but the defense has not been as consistent this season as years past. Get off their backs and see them for what they are, and for what they should be commended for: a WAC team who rose from a conference of other C level WAC teams, and has the longest streak in the country.

I say GOOOOO to the underdog and by the way, State, you have to get rid of that ugly blue Astro Turf.

Fleaflicker,

Coach is right here, if a non BCS conference team finishes in the top 6 they are guaranteed an at large bid in a BCS game. There is no limit on the number, so if Utah and Boise State/Louisville finish 5 and 6, they will get the at large bids. This rule supercedes the rule of the top ranked non conference champion in the top 4 getting a bid (right now California), so if some funny things go on over the next few weekends, could have Boise State and Utah playing in the BCS and Cal going somewhere else.

Boiler Up!
Boiler OUT!

You know what? If Boise State were truly a top 10 team (since they are, after all, ranked there), they should be blowing their opponents out of the water. Especially teams like Tulsa and San Jose State (that both scored over 40 points against them). And Ancient Enemy, that is precisely what bugs me about Boise State: The simple fact that they don't have a defense. Good teams generally have at least halfway decent defenses, and this team doesn't have one. So that's why I think Boise State doesn't deserve a top slot.

But here's something else: If Texas loses, and Boise State wins, they might get enough ground to get into the top 6. And yeah Boilerman, you're right that it doesn't matter how many teams. But it'd be nice to see two non BCS conference teams, two small money schools, play in two big money games. Then one of two things will happen: A) The BCS system is revamped to try and mess over the non BCS conference teams even more, or B) Maybe the big time conferences will finally decide that they want to push for a playoff format, where the teams from the six BCS conferences would dominate the field anyway (well, five of them, since the Big East is hardly better than many non BCS conferences). That would also give schools that aren't from the 6 conferences a fair shot to get in (especially with a 32 or 28 team playoff format), and then any complaints that they aren't getting a fair shot at the national title or big time playoff games holds no water. But in the end, chances are good that most of those teams will be from the major 6 conferences.
But either one is a good thing. The first one would cheese even more people off and bring faster change, and the second one is actually a fair system.

I don't think we're going to have to worry about it. I don't see Texas losing. Although, they do have a tough game on Friday. I think they'll prevail and get their BCS bid.

In Tulsa's defense... (write that statement down, I have never said it before or ever will again) they did win 7 games last year and returned a lot this season. Steve Kragthorpe was getting some nice praise in the offseason, and they seemed like they were honest to god on the verge of turning the program around. However, they have been a pretty big mid-major disappointment this season. That might be why they did well against Boise, because they do have potential to be good, but are inconsistent.

Now, San Jose State...

What he is trying to say is, this isn't Chestnut Ridge bailing from the LHAC and beating up on the ICC... Maybe they will understand it that way TAE

You have the right idea. What I was going for is, it's not McCort or Bedford dropping into the ICC.
