PSU 83 - Rutgers 80!!!

Post by Coach »

I know this isn't MAJOR, but in a way it is a huge win for the Nits (Rutgers is turning the corner and I think had votes in the AP). They had played some lousy ball at the beginning of the year, but the young kids are starting to play better. Tonight they did this WITHOUT Ben Luber or Marlon Smith!

There were 5 Nittany Lions in double figures and the team shot 59% from the floor.

Geary Claxton from Conn is a player, I'm tellin ya! He had 17 tonight as did Aaron Johnson, who won't let Chevvvvvy shove him anywhere. After you watch PSU a few times, no matter who you root for you would love AJ on your team I know you would. He is just all out all the time...

Morrissey, the shooter that was recruited knocked down 4 triples and scored 12 pts. Freshmen Mike Walker also scored 15. That is great play from 3 solid basketball players tonight.

JUCO Transfer, Travis Parker added in his 15 points and the Nits come back to State College on a 3 game winning streak to host the powerful LOCK HAVEN this Friday. They better not lose this one or well...they better not. PSU is 4-2 and they just beat the best team they've played so far. I'm not going to go overboard, but improvement from a team that will return all these guys, pretty much anyway, for a few years will get me pumped about PSU hoops again!

Hey, this was PSU's SUPER BOWL for football AND hoops.

Enjoy it!

WT

PS-State Penn is better off without Luber---You'll see better guards than Luber when Lock Haven comes to town Friday night...and I'm not kidding, either.

My best PSU hoops memory was while I was a season ticket holder in the student section. Joe Crispin and the boys beat 5th ranked Illinois and it was on!!!!

MY best PSU basketball memories are:

1--Watching Chevy make Jan Jags his (Edited: ooooops i had a swear word here and im very sorry. I promise i will not do it again!) over the last 3 seasons when Pitt beat PSU by an average of about 25 points.

2--Seeing Christian Appleman nail a 3 in garbage time against Yale.

3--Hearing about the legendary on-campus exploits of Bruce Parkhill...

Guess everyone remembers last season when Pitt's football schedule was announced, and Furman was on it. Even though Pitt had to scramble to find opponents on short notice when Miami and Va Tech dropped out of the Big East, how many people (PSU fans in particular) made fun of having a D-Iaa team on the schedule. Well, the biggest scheduling joke in college sports happened tonight. Penn State, one of the 11 teams in the BIG TEN conference, played Lock Haven tonight at home in college basketball. And this game was scheduled ON PURPOSE!!!!! Is this pathetic or what? And what purpose did this serve, to invite a D-II team to the Bryce Jordon Center and slaughter them. Must have been a self-esteem thing for the Nittany Nation. Hey, UPJ isn't that far away. Maybe next year Paul Byer and the Mountain Cats can head to State College and give EDDDIIIEEE another much needed early season victory.

It would be very interesting to see how many Pitt fans cracked jokes if Penn State needed overtime to beat Lock Haven.

Here are some excerpts about the thrashing of Lock Haven from today's Tribune-Democrat. 1) The title of the article was: PSU Swamps Lock Haven. NO DUH! 2) It was the fourth straight win for the Nittany Lions, their longest winning streak in two years, since winning 5 straight in 2002-2003. WOW! 3) Penn State controlled EVERY ASPECT of the game. I'm impressed! 4) The Lions took a COMMANDING 49-25 lead into halftime. 5) Penn State finished the game on a 26-4 run in the final 12 minutes. Bring on Marathon Oil!!!

Read this quote and then the entire article if you want to going off on things you don't know about....

Fresh off an 83-80 win at Rutgers, the Nittany Lions (4-2) haven't played a team from a Division II school since facing Juniata in 1989, but will do so tonight because a pair of teams, which DeChellis said he was not permitted to name, stood them up.

One signed contract was broken, and another team, with whom Penn State had reached a verbal agreement, didn't follow through, leaving the Nittany Lions with a hole in their schedule late in the process.

"We searched hard to try to fill it, and could not fill it without returning the game," DeChellis said. "Everybody that was left in terms of scheduling was in the same situation. ... We searched hard into August. At that point in time, we had to get something done, and so Lock Haven was good enough to play us."

I think DeChellis is snowballing everyone with that statement. Think about it for a minute. Why was it necessary for him to JUSTIFY playing Lock Haven? Penn State has TWENTY-NINE, (yes 29), games on their schedule this year. WHAT WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE IF THEY ONLY HAD TWENTY-EIGHT!!!!! Did anyone attend this game anyway? And where was this BIG HOLE in their schedule?? They played Rutgers on Dec 1st. They play Georgetown on Dec 6th. Did they REALLY need a game on Dec 3rd??? I say NO. He scheduled Lock Haven ON PUROSE to get another easy victory before conference play!! Funny, isn't it, that DeChellis IS NOT PERMITTED to name the schools that bailed off the schedule. Scheduling Lock Haven WAS A JOKE!!!!!
