If your interested in coaching a W.P.I.A.L. Football team who plays in Class (AA) football, here's your chance.

Mr. John Bainbridge has retired at Southmoreland Area, after only one year at the helm, (in a five year contract). It seems that he has been offered a head coaching job at Seton Hill College. He was a former Head coach at Latrobe Area high school. The program is young & has some very nice talent to work with. They play teams such as: Brownsville, Washington High, Yough, Jeannette, Greensburg Central Cath, McGuffy, Thomas Jefferson, Charelroi, Waynesburg, East Allegheny, etc...

Notes of interest:

Pre-/mid Seasopn write up on SOUTHMORELAND:

It has been a while, but the Scotties found themselves in the heat of a playoff chase through six weeks of the "2003" season.

Southmoreland was 2-2 in the conference, 4-2 overall before back-to-back losses to Jeannette and Waynesburg eliminated the Scotties from the playoff hunt.

Still, head coach John Bainbridge’s first year at the helf of the Scotties finished with a record of 5-4 overall.

Southmoreland hopes to keep moving in the right direction with the return of Tom McIntyre. The 5’11, 185-pound senior played Quarterback and free safety a year ago.

Junior Running Back Nick Mains will carry the rushing load while wide receiver Nathan Ozoroski is expected to be the Scotties top aerial target.

Up front, the Southmoreland is led by Steve Zubach (6’0, 210), Grant Shaffer (6’1, 185) and Brad Begonia (5’11, 220).

Senior David Bambrey will handle the punting and kicking chores for the Scotties.

Their team is called The Scotties, they wear Red & Black, & the team is conprised of East~Huntington Twp. & Scottdale Area. The stadium in Alverton, Pa. is awesome. Southmoreland just remodeled the whole facility. They have 4,000 persons seating capacity, with all the trimmings.
