WPIAL Basketball - Only Two Remain Perfect
12/31/2004
As 2004 turns into 2005, only two WPIAL basketball teams remain undefeated. The Avonworth Antelopes girls team is now 12-0 while the Serra Catholic Eagles girls team is 10-0 at years end.
Coming into the final week of 2004, there were six girls basketball teams that had not tasted defeat. However holiday tournament play turned out to be the first taste of defeat for Mount Lebanon, Bethel Park and Gateway in the WPIAL, and Westinghouse in the Pittsburgh City League.
Only two WPIAL boys basketball teams entered the final week of 2004 hoping to carry perfection into 2005.
However Upper St. Clair lost at the KSA Disney Classic championship game in Orlando, Florida on Thursday by 7 to General McLane, while North Catholic lost its final three games this past week in the State Farm Classic in Bloomington, Illinois.
