NB @ Berlin
NB @ Berlin
I was wondering if I could get a little background info on the game. I know that it is not a single A playoff game, but I'm going to be heading up to Berlin to see it and I don't know many of the kids on the team anymore.
i really thought nbc would beat berlin in week 10...that was up until last week when berlin upset perennial power windber...maybe that was just a fluke but who knows
nbc relied on its running game to beat west branch last week...they need to establish the run with travis donaldson and zach conley again...the o-line needs to feed off last weeks performance and give jake hall time to hit chris pannebaker and jared wiand...
the defense did a real nice job last week as they shut down west branch running and throwing the ball...i thought d-ends greg kilgore and micah stapelton had exceptional games and the linebackers stepped up and made some tackles...
don’t have a lot of information about berlin other than they have a stud tailback in eric d'carrion...he's a very tough kid who also excels in wrestling...i believe he has broken the school record for rushing yards in a single season with over 1500 yards to this point...he was the key factor in last weeks shocker over winber
i still like nbc to finish the season with a W...nbc 20 berlin 14...

Just to give you an idea of who to look for on Friday...Travis Donaldson #32, at running back will be looking for another good game. Last week against West Branch he a career game with 136 yards rushing, his first 100 yard game in his career. He'll be following #45 Zach Conley at fullback who last week also had a great game with 70 yards on 16 carries. Zach, in my opinion, has been this teams man to follow this year, every game he plays his heart out on offense and defense and plays to the very end. Jake Hall #7 will be calling the cadence at the QB position.
On the O-line we have at T-end #36 Eric Wagner who's having a good year at his first time position. He's also playing well on defense at the middle linebacker position. He played a little less last week due to a knee injury but hopefully he'll be getting healthy this week. Also up front, there are some big boys, Drew Eshelman (#50), Brock Strayer (#66), Codie Rodland (#72), Steve Wagner (#77), and Kevin Brennan (#73). Greg Kilgore #89, is having an excellent first year for the Black Panthers, he's played in the backfield, tight end, and has been a major contributor at defensive end. He had a big catch last week for 21 yards to sustain the scoring drive that put NB up by 7 in the third quarter.
In the secondary look for #26 Chris Kagarise. Keggy is only a sophomore but is playing extremely well and adjusting to the varsity level, he had an interception that set up the go ahead touchdown drive last week. Chris Pannebaker #27 and Jared Wiand (#20), and Trevor Eichelberger (#85, good number) have had productive years on defense. This is Chris Pannebaker's first varsity season and has had some outstanding catches on the offensive side of the ball as well. Jared is also Jake's other main target on offense. Micah Stapleton #60 playes the other defensive position and is one of the fastest kids on the team. He's been playing solid at that position and continues to improve each game. I think that's about it, hope that gives you an idea of who'll be on the field and who to look for.

Berlin has three good running backs. Of course the one who stands out is this wrestler who has over 1500 yds rushing for season. He is good. Berlin runs wishbone but hasnt optioned a whole lot out of it. They like to run iso's and dives out of there wishbone set. They have a really good wide receiver who is also very athletic and fast. They have played to potential of there opponents so far this year. Ferndale 7 Berlin 15 Shade thirty something Berlin 7 Berlin lost to township in overtime THey beat Windber badly friday night Beat Blacklick Valley so so They are dangerous team. There defense looks like a 4-4 and there backers fly to the ball. NBC must be able to run ball again this week. COUld be should be a good game. HOWEVER if NBC doesnt play hard will be a long night.

I would like to see the Panthers finish strong with a WIN. I hope they play as good as they did against West Branch, a game I saw in person. I thought West Branch was better than they looked. NB needs to play more physical and just fly around and smack people instead of grabbing them. You don't have to be very talented to hit someone hard. Keep doing the fundamentals well because that is key to victory. dang I feel like a coach!!!ha, ha, ha. Good Luck Panthers
i think i may have already posted this but...
Westbranch had 6 starters out for the season due to injuries. i think WB did a lot better then should have been expected due to the injuries. Great job to NB tho for a great game. plugged away the entire time. best of luck to you guys, if you play as a team i know you guys will win. we saw that last week.

True, Westy did have some kids out, but that was the first game Northern has played all 4 quarters and like pep said, as a team. They gained the confidence they needed in the first quarter by having several defensive stops and then getting on the board first. And you have to credit them on the last drive of the game to preserve the victory in which they converted 2 fourth downs and had the ball for an unheard of 11:15. It was a great game to see and man was it exciting.
