Just like becoming bowl eligible in college football, all a D-I college basketball team has to do to qualify for the NIT tournament is win more games than they lose. Pretty simple, right? Well after starting the season 6-2, the Penn State men's basketball team has lost 9 out of their last 10 games since their dismantling of D-II Lock Haven. With a record of 7-11, things are looking dismal for the Nittany Lions, particularly their chances for post-season play. In fact, there is even some question as to whether or not they can even beat a Big 10 opponent this year. Their best chance may come this Saturday when Northwestern comes to town. We'll just have to see.

penn state basketball does not have the type of players needed to win at against big ten competition. they only have a few players who i would consider real division 1 talent. eddie has a real challenge ahead of him. give him a few years to get some players.

i do believe they will win 1 or 2 big ten games this year. they played michigan pretty tuff this past weekend.

Well, it looks like Penn State will fail to make the NIT tournament again this year. With a present record of 7-13 they would have to win 8 of their remaining 9 games to finish above .500, something they have not done since the 2000-2001 season. Of course, they could go on a rampage and win the Big Ten Tournament, giving them a spot for the NCAA Tournament. Failure to play after the regular season has been detrimental to PSU's program. It certainly hurts recruiting, having stayed home 4 years in a row. Plus, the team is losing valuable playing and practice time by hanging up the jerseys early. While many teams are cavorting about the country gaining valuable playing experience, PSU is at home studying. This, of course, improves the graduation rates of their B-Ball players. So I guess there is a silver lining in staying home in the early Spring.

Nobody thought they'd be in the NIT with all the underclassmen they have playing. Moldo is trying to hard to rag on the Lions.

As if you didn't by bringing up graduation rates. Only you can't twist the facts for losing records in sports. As Joe Friday used to say, "Just the facts ma'am. Just the facts."
