Coaching Changes - Montour, Yough, Char-Houston Football & Southmoreland Area
1/25/2005 -

Three area high school football head coaching positions have been officially filled in the past week, including another W.P.I.A.L. champion coach on the move.

The much talked about switch for Lou Cerro from Seton-LaSalle to Montour became official on Monday night as the Montour school board hired Cerro as new football coach and district facilitator.

Cerro starts his new job at Montour in February, and will work closely with athletic director Mitch Galiyas.

In his "12" years as head coach for the Rebels, Cerro was 82-46-1, winning W.P.I.A.L. titles in 2002 and in 2004.

Meanwhile, it didn't take long for the Yough school district to name it's new coach.

Less than a month after Rich Bowen's surprise decision to leave Yough to take over as head football coach at Serra Catholic, the Cougars named Jim Wehner as it's new football coach.

Wehner will take over as both football coach and athletic director at Yough.

Wehner heads to Cougar Mountain after 4 years as head football coach at Avonworth High School.

The Antelopes were 12-27 during Wehner's tenure at Avonworth, including a winless 0-9 campaign this past season. Wehner did lead the 'Lopes to a playoff berth in 2003.

Yough is coming off a stunning turnaround in which they were winless in 2003, and finished this past season with a playoff berth and a final record of 7-3.

Wehner began his coaching career as a wide receiver coach for two years at his alma mater, Morehead State. He also served as a quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Duquesne University under Greg Gattuso.

While Wehner was hired as the new coach and athletic director, at Chartiers-Houston, the athletic director has been named the new football coach.

Terry Fetsko replaces long time football coach John Haught, who retired after 29 seasons as head coach of the Bucs.

Fetsko, who played for the Buccaneers in the mid-80's, takes over a team that finished 7-4 this past season with an appearance in the Class (A) playoffs.

Fetsko's only other high school head coaching experience was with the Avella Eagles from 1993 to 1996. In two of those years, the Eagles finished with a winning record. They have not finished over .500 since.

Fetsko has been an assistant coach at Chartiers-Houston, as well as Washington & Jefferson College and California University of Pennsylvania.

At Southmoreland Area- Brian Pritts, has been named the new Scotties head coach. Pritts has been in the system for quite a few years & was last years runner up for the job.
