Noonan's a big scorer without a big reputation....

(AP) — John Noonan might be the best high school basketball player in the state that hardly anybody knows about.
Noonan, a 6-foot-5 senior at Friends Select School, is the leading scorer in the Philadelphia area with a "32"-points-per-game average, but isn't being recruited by any big-name schools.
"We see a box-and-one defense just about every game," Friends Select coach Joe Westerfer said. "But John's a shooter and a scorer and he's tough to stop."
Noonan averaged 18.1 points as a junior and 15.1 as a sophomore. He plays shooting guard for Friends Select, which is 8-10 overall and 0-4 in the Friends School League.
Noonan surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career in late December.
"John probably scores 75 percent of our points," Westerfer said. "I wish we had a stronger supporting group around him, but we don't. So we rely on him a lot."
According to Westerfer, Noonan is being recruited by schools in the Patriot and Ivy leagues.
"I think he could play at a little higher Division I college level," Westerfer said. "He played A.A.U. ball this past summer but was overshadowed on his team by a couple other guys. He just isn't known that well by college coaches.
"John isn't the kind of player who is going to blow by you on the court. But he knows how to score and he's smart. He would be a real good player in the right situation for somebody," Westerfer said.
