Boys Basketball Blognotes...
(Heritage Conference):
Blairsville (18-0): The Bobcats remain undefeated and continue to roll along. They are without a doubt the best Single-A hoops team in the west this year. They handled both their games with ease this past week, beating United 82-62 and destroying Northern Cambria 85-24. The Bobcats will look to improve to 21-0 this week facing off against Purchase Line (1/31), Homer Center (2/2) and Laurel Valley (2/4).
Marion Center (15-3): The Stingers won both of their games this past week to keep pace with the juggernaut Bobcats. They triumphed over a couple of "valleys" with wins over Laurel Valley (94-60) and Ligonier Valley (71-52). MC goes against Northern Cambria on 1/31, Penns Manor on 2/2 and Saltsburg on 2/4.
(Juniata Valley League):
West Branch (18-2): The Warriors remain at the top of the JVL this week with wins over Curwensville (69-48), Moshannon Valley (75-74) and Bellwood Antis (67-59). WB takes on Williamsburg on 2/1, Northern Bedford on 2/2 and Claysburg Kimmel on 2/4.
Penns Valley (15-6): The Rams kept pace behind West Branch with a 3-0 week of their own. The beat Juniata Valley 61-33, Claysburg-Kimmel 58-17 and Philipsburg Osceola 59-47. PV has two games this week: West Branch (2/1) and Southern Huntingdon (2/4).
(LHAC Section) I
Central Cambria (15-2): The Red Devils won both of their LHAC contests this week, beating Bishop McCort (63-54) and Central (64-45). CC has three games this week: Huntingdon (1/31), Bedford (2/2) and Forest Hills (2/4).
Bedford (12-6): The Bisons had a tough, 1-2 week. They fell to Penn Cambria 63-44 early in the week and then were nipped 72-71 by Bishop Carroll. They finished the week strong though, beating WestPAC member Windber 48-44. Bedford goes against Central Cambria on 2/2, Central on 2/4 and Chestnut Ridge on 2/5.
(LHAC Section) II
Johnstown (15-2): The Trojans rebounded nicely after the upset loss to the hands of Forest Hills the previous week. They were 2-0 with victories over Central (49-32) and Westmont Hilltop (49-35). JHS plays District 9 DuBois on 1/31 and comes back to the LHAC for contests against Bishop Carroll (2/2) and Bishop McCort (2/4).
Bishop McCort (13-6): After losing to Central Cambria early in the week, the Crushers beat Bishop Carroll 84-83 to finish the week 1-1. McCort plays Somerset (2/2) and Johnstown (2/4) this week.
(MAC Section) I
State College (17-2): The Little Lions had no problems beating rival Altoona by 40 (67-37). They also handled District 11 Pleasant Valley 61-43. However, they ended their week running in to Philadelphia Public League buzzsaw Frankford and were handed only their second loss of the season by the count of 69-57. State College plays rival Hollidaysburg on 2/1 and Bradford on Saturday 2/5.
Hollidaysburg (16-4): The Tigers went 3-0 for the week. They beat fellow MAC Section I foes Central Mountain (49-34) and Altoona (61-49) to start the week and then ended it by winning over WPIAL Quad-A opponent Connellsville 74-71. Hollidaysburg takes on State College on 2/1 and Central Dauphin of District 3 on 2/4.
(MAC Section) II
Bellefonte (17-3): The Red Raiders continue to roll, going 2-0 on the week. They beat the Mounties of Philipsburg Osceola 62-58 and then beat Section II Lewistown 70-57. Bellefonte takes on Indian Valley on 2/2 and Bishop Guilfoyle on 2/4.
Lewistown (12-8): The Panthers had a rough week, losing the above referenced contest to Bellefonte. They also fell to District 3 West York 65-60 but salvaged a wind against Huntingdon at the beginning of the week 73-49. Lewistown faces off against Quad-A Central Mountain on 1/31, Bishop Guilfoyle on 2/2 and Philipsburg-Osceola on 2/4.
(WestPAC North)
Conemaugh Valley (15-4): Coach Lupek's Blue Jays clinched the North title with wins over Rockwood (96-63) and Portage (59-51). CV plays Conemaugh Township on 1/31 and Windber on 2/4.
Conemaugh Township (16-4): The Indians had an easy 3-0 week, beating Richland (59-42), North Star (64-37) and Meyersdale (65-40). CT plays Conemaugh Valley on 1/31 and Portage on 2/4.
(WestPAC South)
Shanksville-Stonycreek (17-2): The Vikings continue to roll, coming off a 3-0 week that saw them beat Hyndman (62-35), Berlin Brothersvalley (70-63) and Rockwood (42-40). S-S will play Turkeyfoot Valley (1/31), Southern Fulton (2/2) and Meyersdale (2/4) this week.
Berlin Brothersvalley (13-6): The Mountaineers went 1-1 for the week beating Turkeyfoot Valley 68-59 after suffering the previously mentioned setback from the hands of Shanksville-Stonycreek. B-B plays on Monday 1/31 against 0-17 Salisbury-Elk Lick and on Friday 2/4 agains 7-13 Shade.
(Sideling Hill League)
Southern Fulton (14-4): The Indians finally suffered a loss from a PIAA team as they were edged by Tussey Mountain 49-44 early in the week. They rebounded to easily handle Fannett-Metal 72-39. SF has a busy week playing Chestnut Ridge on 2/1, Shanksville-Stonycreek on 2/2 (this should be an excellent game) and McConnellsburg on 2/4.
(Independents):
Harmony (13-6): The Owls went 3-0 winning on back-to-back-to-back nights against Glendale (66-59), Brockway (36-30) and Shade (59-53). They play against West Branch (2/2) and Kane (2/4) this week.
