HIGH SCHOOL Scholarship honors Johnstown athletes...

A scholarship fund has been established to posthumously honor two Greater Johnstown High School standouts.

The DiBuono-Gallucci Friendship Awards honor the late Ron DiBuono and Donald Gallucci. Each year, a male and a female student at Johnstown will receive the awards.

DiBuono was an all-district football player on coach Dave Hart's 1954 Trojans team. He played at Wofford College in South Carolina, where he was a teammate of N.F.L. Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.

DiBuono was an all-Southern Conference player in 1959. He coached at Boswell, Greater Johnstown and Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech before becoming a school administrator.

Gallucci was an outstanding Trojans wrestler who went to Lock Haven College, where he won three Pennsylvania State Athletic College titles and eventually was inducted into the Lock Haven University Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997.

Gallucci was the starting quarterback on Hart's 1954 Trojans team. On the wrestling mat, he had a 19-2 record as a senior and was one of three Johnstown wrestlers to win a District 6 title.

The committee of friends organizing the scholarship project are Joe Camut, Al Reynolds, Anthony Piro, Sam Azar, Anthony DiBuono and Jerry Davitch. Contributions may be sent to the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies, 116 Market St., Suite 4, Johnstown, Pa. 15901.
