Religion and Politics Clash
Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.

East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent. The minister declined an interview with News 13. But he did say "the actions were not politically motivated." There are questions about whether the bi-laws were followed when the members were thrown out.

If this happened as you say, then that is just one really, really stupid preacher. I guess for every 10 EXTREME liberals, there's 1 EXTREME conservative. This guy definitely crossed the line.

Aren't the sinners the ones who need 'saved'? And didn't Jesus himself associate with prostitutes and thieves? If indeed this is the case, the church's stance should be that all people should be allowed to come to church, since it is the sick that need healed. Not that the church doesn't associate with those who are sinners, or those that do not support George Bush. The holier than thou attitude that some Christians have is a reason that I stopped going to church in the first place.

Hey calls them Party of God, I call them God's Opinion Party. POG is definitely a great name for a party. You're getting closer to HOG, why beat around the bush?

We're all sinners, so I guess we all need 'put away'. If he is going to ask everyone who he thinks is committing a sin to not attend his church, he is going to have an empty church. Does this guy think GW isn't a sinner?

Well, I don't go to church anymore because they are God's Opinion Party, or at least they act like it. Rock and rap is sinful and puts evil thoughts in your head. According to Nazerene Doctrine, drinking alcohol is sinful. And there was one church that was very committed to converting a gay man to a straight guy by telling him how sinful he was. He couldn't convert, so he jumped off an overpass in front of a tractor trailer. Basically, church doctrine is full of bull, and I don't buy it. Therefore, I don't go.

Besides, what if they don't support GW because of the war in Iraq? I guess they're not welcome there either, even if they support all the church positions on abortion, drinking, gays, etc. Pretty dumb.

The countdown has begun. It is now 2:41 CST and only a matter of time before Moldo posts "the gay guy got what he deserved."

I'll bet he posts by 6:30, EST. Any betters?
