Week 3 Saturday Picks
Posted: September 17th, 2005, 11:00 am
ok, children. Since I called the TCU upset of Utah, take my words as gold. Here is what will happen today.
Oregon State vs. Louisville:
----------------------------------
- Saturday starts off with a bruiser. Louisville is not the team of last year. Oregon State has lost Derek Anderson but is currently 2 and 0. This is the game that Louisville must win to get to the national championship that I predicted 6 months ago. Keep your eye on this game. This is bigtime upset material. But since I picked Louisville and USC... give me Louisville in this game.
West Virginia vs. Maryland:
-----------------------------------
- I really want Maryland to get their act together, but I don't see it yet. They beat NCSU last week but I'm not convinced. WVU wins this game.
Eastern Michigan vs. Michigan:
----------------------------------
- Call me an idiot, but EMU has a chance to win this game if they can score every time they get the football. That's hard to do, obviously, but I'm telling you, Matt Bohnet is an excellent quarterback and Eric Deslauriers is absolutely one of the fastest, best WR's in the nation. However, Michigan will win this game, probably big.
Virginia vs. Syracuse:
---------------------------
- This is upset material as well. UVA is depleted, only beat WMU by 12 measly points. I wish that Cuse offense was a little more potent. Close call. Give me UVA.
Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt:
-----------------------------
- Let me just say how much I really like Vanderbilt. Jay Cutler is fantastic. I stopped in Nashville with the sole purpose of buying a Vanderbilt knit-cap and t-shirt. So with that being said, I have to pick against them again because they keep winning when I bet against them. Give me Ole Miss!!!
SMU vs. Texas A&M:
------------------------------
- Okay. TCU beats Oklahoma. SMU beats TCU. SMU is clearly poised to win the national championship, however, give me A&M by 60.
LA Monroe vs. Georgia:
--------------------------
- I can't even put into words how bad the Sun Belt is this year. Georgia by 700.
VMI vs. Duke:
-----------------------
- Dave Poldiak and Stonewall Jackson's dead **** will lead the helpless VMI squad will sitting on the back of the same horse. I think that's really all that needs to be said. Duke by 1.
Toledo vs. Temple:
----------------------------
- Lord help our Owls, who are the 2nd best I-A team right now in PA behind Penn State. Rockets by 70.
Troy vs. Missouri:
-------------------------
- I have come to the point where I have a deep and burning hatred for the Missouri Tigers. Nothing makes me happier, however, than to see programs that are crap start talking about national titles and then fall flat on their face. I am so sick and tired of hearing how Missouri is on the verge of getting their act together. Fire that bozo before you lose ALL credibility. As for this game, Missouri will win, but I really hope Troy beats them 2 years straight. Missouri by 2.
Wyoming vs. Air Force:
----------------------------
- Bigtime conference match-up. Wyoming needs this game more than Air Force does. If Wyoming is really making as much progress as I am hearing, then let's see it. Give me Wyoming.... I guess.
Ball State vs. Auburn:
----------------------------
- I don't even know why Ball State still goes to their games.
Michigan State vs. Notre Dame:
--------------------------------------
- Got a bad feeling about this one for the Irish fans. MSU is on the right track. Gotta keep picking the Irish, though, until they let me down. I don't see a mental let-down happening, I just think MSU is better than people think. ND by 10.
Army vs. Baylor:
---------------------
- I want Army to be good. Baylor by 15.
Oklahoma vs. UCLA:
---------------------------
- This is another upset. I have been saying for 2 years how much better UCLA has been getting. They have an excellent passer and an excellent running back in Maurice Drew. OU is not good. They have holes all over that team, and once again their secondary is their weakest spot. Look for Dorrell to get a huge win here in this game.
Pittsburgh vs. Nebraska:
-------------------------------
- Two former NFL coaches who were run out of the league for different reasons. Donkey Bowl 2005 should be a real let-down for the helpless Panthers. Look for an improving Husker team to get another win and look for me to talk a lot of sh!t.
San Diego State vs. Ohio State:
-------------------------------------
- Buckeyes in a rout. SDSU is even worse than usual.
Central Michigan vs. Penn State:
---------------------------------------
- CMU beat Miami Ohio, and I know MoHo lost their coach to the Hoosiers, but still. I don't think CMU is as bad as most people think they are, this year. I'm looking for Penn State to pull it out, but this is another touchy game. Give me PSU by 7.
Miami vs. Clemson:
-------------------------
- Watch out for this Canes team. The better team lost the game when they collided with FSU. Miami is on their way up, while FSU is about to crumble. Mark my words. Canes by 20.
Ohio vs. Virginia Tech:
-----------------------------
- Although Ohio is clearly poised to win the national title, give me Virginia Tech by 250 points.
Idaho vs. Washington:
--------------------------
- Washington may be down, but not this down. UW by 16.
Alabama vs. South Carolina:
---------------------------------
- I am wondering if this South Carolina team is going to run out of steam. They beat UCF and almost knocked off Georgia. I really want Alabama to do well, but they seem like they cannot get over the hump. I'm going to take South Carolina.
Northern Iowa vs. Iowa:
-----------------------------
- Hawkeyes will rebound against I-AA in-state rival.
Miami Ohio vs. Kent State:
-------------------------------
- Josh Betts has 650 yards passing already? Jesus. MoHo by 15.
Tennessee Tech vs. Northern Illinois:
--------------------------------------------
- History has been made, folks. This game didn't sell one ticket. NIU by 1.
Illinois vs. California:
--------------------------
- Another potential upset. Keep your eye on this one. Cal by 13.
Akron vs. Middle Tennessee State:
-----------------------------------------
- Pitt transfer Luke Getsky gets his first win.
Eastern Kentucky vs. NC State:
-------------------------------------
- Yes. NCSU by 50.
East Carolina vs. Wake Forest:
--------------------------------------
- I refuse to pick any team that is coached by Skip Holtz.
UCONN vs. Georgia Tech:
-------------------------------
- Big East needs this win. Tech needs to stay hot, and they will. Ga. Tech by 25.
Kentucky vs. Indiana:
----------------------------
- UK is on the right track, and they have the nicest home uniforms in the country. Indiana looks to continue early success, but gets derailed by the Wildcats.
Jacksonville State vs. UAB:
---------------------------------
- Remember when Sosa and McGwire both broke that record and no one gives a sh!t about Sammy Sosa? This is the same deal as Tenn Tech / NIU and this barnburner right here. This game is so bad on paper for financial reasons that the NCAA actually charged them money for NEGATIVE attendance. This game sold -100 tickets. I don't understand it either, but trust me this really happened. UAB.
Central Florida vs. South Florida:
--------------------------------------
- For God's sakes. USF I guess.
Wisconsin vs. North Carolina:
-----------------------------------
- Wisconsin somehow is competent again. Give me the Badgers by 30.
Arkansas State vs. Oklahoma State:
--------------------------------------------
- I have seen bits and pieces of both oSu games and they are horrible. They are 10 times worse than when Les Miles was there last year. They'll win again, going to 3-0... all 3 wins over Sun Belt cellar-dwellers.
Tulsa vs. North Texas:
----------------------------
- They have no answer for Ashlan Davis. UNT again loses to a team in a conference better than the Fun Belt.
Rice vs. Texas:
----------------------
- Saw this live last year. New year, same outcome. Texas by 60.
Grambling vs. Washington State:
--------------------------------------
- In one of the classiest moves ever made by a head coach, this bozo at Grambling tried to force Alcorn State to forfeit a game because of Hurricane Katrina, even when Alcorn State said they'd make it up later in the year. Nice job, a**hole. Washington State by 30.
Western Carolina vs. Cincinnati:
-------------------------------------
- Cincinnati. I'd look at this as a possible upset, though.
Louisiana Tech vs. Kansas:
---------------------------------
- The only thousand yard mark that will be reached by the Kansas Jayhawks this season will be the thousand yards of fabric that it takes to cover Mark Mangino's elephant body. La Tech by 1.
Fresno State vs. Oregon:
--------------------------------
- I can't even put into words how much I think Pat Hill needs thrown into a river. This guy is such a loudmouth, stupid loudmouth!!!! I really hope Oregon beats them by 50 but in reality Oregon is dogcrap like usual and will lose to even someone as pathetic as Fresno State.
McNeese State vs. Southern Miss:
----------------------------------------
- Give me my freakin' Eagles, you b!tch!!!!!
Sam Houston State vs. Texas Tech:
------------------------------------------
- Jesus Lord, dude. Get a grip in Lubbock! Get a freakin' athletic director. This team is ranked!!!! Tech by 80.
Southern Illinois vs. Western Michigan:
-----------------------------------------------
- Correction. This game sold -200 tickets. Don Bailey leads the Salukis and Paul Beyer to a big loss at the hands of that stingy WMU team. Ya know what? Give me Southern Illinois.
Florida State vs. Boston College:
----------------------------------------
- Boston College totally wins this game. I don't care how many text messages Dustin K. Faith sent me all week. The hell with all that. FSU sucks. BC has so many weapons, and no one gives this team any credit because of inconsistency. FSU sucks.
Tennessee vs. Florida:
--------------------------
- Yeah, Tennessee is on the verge of winning a national title. Give me a break. Florida by 17.
UT Chattanooga vs. Memphis:
-------------------------------------
- Yes, folks, this game is also a waste of typing. Memphis by 70.
Northwestern State vs. Louisiana Lafayette:
---------------------------------------------------
- The Fun Belt, folks. So, so, so terrible. NW State.
Rutgers vs. Buffalo:
-------------------------
- The possibilities here are almost making me froth at the mouth. Nothing would make me happier than to see another crappy Big East team lose to a team in the bottom 19 of 119. Rutgers by 3.
Mississippi State vs. Tulane:
-----------------------------------
- I wonder how much discussion there will be about the hurricane during this game? MSU by 10.
New Mexico State vs. New Mexico:
-----------------------------------------
- Oh no a huge in-state rivalry. Maybe Dontrell Moore will only rush for 500 in this game. NM by 30.
FAU vs. Minnesota:
-------------------------
- No comment. Minnesota by 90.
Northwestern vs. Arizona State:
--------------------------------------
- ASU by 20.
Purdue vs. Arizona:
------------------------
- Potential upset, but give me Purdue by 17.
UC Davis vs. Stanford:
-----------------------------
- Walt Harris gets another win. The world cheers.
UNLV vs. Nevada:
-----------------------
- Wow. Nevada.
Arkansas vs. USC:
-------------------------
- Not even close. USC by 80.
