Wrong Call or Correct Call

Situation: X-PT
Defensive end rushes in and kills the kicker.
X-PT was good.
Call - The official gave the kicking team captain the choice of moving the ball half the distance to the goalline or declining and taking the X-PT.

If this was correct it is a total BS rule. You can kill the kicker after he makes the point and basically not get penalized. Not many coaches are going to take a point off the board.

I don't know what the rule is, but it would seem to me that the penalty should be assessed on the kickoff.

Some other rule changes they should consider.

1. Kickoffs into the endzone should be returnable.
2. Long missed field goals should be returned to the line of scrimmage and not to the 20 yard line.

The kicking team has two options on this play. Option 1 take the point off the board, enforce 1/2 the distance and replay the try. Option 2 is to keep the point on the board and enforce the penalty on the succeeding spot which is the kickoff. The penalty would be 5 yards for running into the kicker or 15 yards for roughing the kicker.
