Every year it is going to be the same thing 3 undefeated's and one always being left out. You could keep the current bowl stucture and work a playoff through it.
Here is how it will be laid out:

1. Big 12 Champ
2. Pac 10 Champ
3. ACC Champ
4. Big 10 Champ
5. Big East Champ
6. SEC Champ
7. At Large #1
8. At Large #2

Play the 4 major bowls with these teams just as the BCS does.

At Large teams must have at least 9 wins and be at least 8th in the BCS
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5
According to BCS rating
These games will start at noon, 4:30, 8 on Jan 1st, and 8pm on Jan. 2nd

Then the four winners play Jan 9th and 10th to elimate to two teams

Then the championship game will then be around Jan. 17 or the closet Sat., Sun., or Mon. night to that date.

The teams that do not make the playoffs can still play at the bowls they would normally play at.

Just think of the money these games would bring in for the universities it would be able to compete with the Super Bowl.

It's not always going to be the same thing. It is extremely hard to run the SEC gauntlet undefeated, because all those teams hate eachother so much. UCLA has to play USC, Tech has to play Miami and probably FSU, and Alabama has LSU and Auburn. LSU is a lot better than we think they are, as much as I hate to admit it. Iron Bowl is a HUGE rivalry and anything can and will happen.

The thing that sucks about the BCS is that it usually works itself out. I hate it. But the firepower the BCS supporters use is that it usually works itself out, and undefeated teams do not get screwed yearly. If Tech loses to Miami or FSU, every supporter will say "told ya".

I like you basic theory apbk, but I would format it slightly different.

Give 5 of the current BCS conferences automatic bids. Throw the Big East in a hat with the other conferences (Hey, I'm a Pitt fan but I'm not so naive to think that's a strong conference right now) and select the highest BCS formula rated "other" conference champion and 2 at-larges from among the highest BCS formula rated non-conference champions (from the 5 automatics) and include N.Dame to have 8 qualifiers.

Play the Quarterfinals at neutral sites the weekend after the Conference Championships (2nd week of Dec, which is otherwise a "dead" college football weekend)

Allow QF losers to accept or have arrangements to include them in the Bowl games somewhere.

Semifinals on Jan. 1 rotated between the Sugar/Rose and Orange/Fiesta Bowls with a championship game in one of the Big 4 Bowl Cities 10-15 days after Jan. 1.

I think the Semifinals would be huge in terms of interest on NY Day and TV revenue. Actually the 4 Quarterfinals would be big as well. Play them on a Sat. at Noon, 3:30, 7 and either a late Sat. night game or a Fri night/Sun night game.

Just one guys opinion on how to do it.

No, No, No....ND gets included in the "At-large" pool for those two spots in my idea.

Well according to ND, Weis is such a good coach with his extension. So they'll be there every year. Might as well reserve that spot for them.
