The upset was not to be.
FH held WH on 4th down from the 10 yard line.
The Rangers drove 90 yards in 2:30 to score the winning touchdown with just :30 remaining.

yes, it was a great game.
Westmont did what they needed to do to give themselves a chance in this game. Create the big plays. The Hilltoppers came out and forced two big turnovers, and the Rangers had to play catch up all night.
Westmont was one step, or one tackle from winning hte game. If McCloskey breaks that run late in the 4th, it's ball game.
Credit the Forest Hills line for coming out in the second half and taking over the game. The Rangers showed a lot of guts tonight fighting uphill all night long.
Great line play, along with a couple big throws by Travis Rearick proved to be enough to get the Rangers into round 2.

Almosts occur in any game. Almost example- if Trout doesn't drop a pass that hits him between the numbers, the first drive stays alive. If Mike Katrancha doesn't have 2 procedure calls, Westy's drives stall out. If Rearick doesn't slip as he's trying to pass, when the ball is thrown with nothing on it, Khuri stepped in front and takes it inside the 5 for Westy. Westy gets a big break when the ref gives a very favorable spot and an automatic 1st down on their 4th qtr. drive. One of my friends was working the sticks, and HE couldn't believe the spot they got. Why didn't Westy try to eat more time off the clock on their late drive? They tried a pass that fell incomplete, stopping the clocks. Other than those examples, and probably a few more, Westy came to play after the thrashing they got in week 2. I so much as told the Westy Coaches that fact inside the school after the game as they were taking a break outside the locker rooms. FH started out just like the Bedford game in week 3. They had the fortitude to suck it up in the second half and git 'er done!

True, but "almosts" have more impact later in the game rather than earlier.
Anyways, it was a classic bout between Westmont and Forest Hills that reminded more of the 90s than of recent years. The Hilltoppers came out fired-up and confident and it showed as they had FH reeling in the first 24 minutes. Had Westmont won, I think that Khuri's 40+ yard interception return would have been the big point. The turnover bug that struck Westy in the regular season match hit the Rangers in the first half.
Forest Hills regrouped at halftime and came out with a textbook seven minute power-running drive that cut the lead in half. After pulling to within one, it looked like it was Westy who was now reeling, but they responded with their only real threat of the second half, driving to near the ten yard line of FH with something like three minutes left. As stated above, I don't understand the passes, I think four runs would have gotten the job done, as Kanuch and McKolosky were running their hearts out last night. Forest Hills got the ball on downs and put together another text-book drive, complete with a backbreaker long reception.
Westmont ... the kids should be proud as hell. Few outside of the confines of Westmont, Southmont and Upper Yoder gave them a snowball's chance in hell of even staying within 28 points, but they believed in themselves and came within a play or two of pulling off the upset. It was great to see the visiting side of G.H. Miller packed with Scarlett supporters.
Forest Hills ... showed character, didn't panic, and took momemtum back from the first second of the second half. Blowing out opponents won't help them for the rest of the playoffs, but games like this sure will and they will be the better for it.
Great season for both teams and thanks to both for giving us a good old-fashioned Hilltopper-Ranger Friday night classic.
