Bill Snyder Steps Down at K-State.

A professor of mine is on the UNT athletic board, and we talk college football a good bit. He told me once that his wife dated Bill Snyder for awhile in college, and basically that guy is pretty much a piece of trash and is incredibly arrogant. Imagine how much that grew with all his wins. Too bad most of them came against Louisiana Monroe and the Illinois School for the Blind.
Bill Snyder was notorious for cupcake scheduling, and I think it may be because of him that the term "cupcake" really took hold. K-State loves to play 2-3 I-AA teams before they start conference competition, and it is starting to catch up with them finally. You are only as good as the teams you play, and it's all well and good to play Nicholls State and North Dakota A&T whenever you are in the Big 12 and BCS hunt every year, but when you start to slip and the recruiting slips, you are no longer as competitve against the conference foes after having taken on the likes of those I-AA schools beforehand.
K-State has really fallen off the map, and it appears they suffered a mechanical breakdown after that Marshall loss a few years back, in Manhattan. They are really not a very good team, and haven't been for quite awhile. It seems that the issue was further compounded when Bob Elliot (DC) looked like he was set to get that Indiana job, and then they gave it to Hoeppner instead. I'm not saying this is true, but it could be a factor in the wind leaving the sails.
Kansas State is now in quite a dilema with longtime coach Snyder stepping down. For as much as I have always disliked K-State, that program was simply a cesspool before he took it over. He really got them into conference competition and made a lot of pushes on a national scale. Now, the program is faced with filling that void, and I highly doubt they have the clout, location, or even money, to bring in a high-profile coach. Anyone who has been to Manhattan knows what I am talking about. This may get pretty rough for the Wildcats, and maybe more so the Big 12 North, who is already struggling unbelievably. If Nebraska is having this much trouble getting off the ground, imagine Kansas State, who does not have the depth chart ready to hand over to a new coach like Solich did for Callahan (who is doing well on his own recruiting wise, but that's besides the point). I would think that Elliot's consideration for the IU job would maybe be enough for the university to hand the reigns over to him, a guy already in the program for many, many years. Either way, things are not looking well for Kansas State, and their recruiting is not looking too well either, so far.
