Penn State has announced that even if USC or Texas were to falter this week the Nittany Lions will accept an Orange Bowl bid and forego the opportunity to play in the National Championship Game regardless.

AD Tim Curley deferred to PSU Chief Executive Officer and Head Coach Joe Paterno, who was fresh out of the hospital after having what one doctor termed "1968 Nixon Flashbacks", only had one brief comment.

"Our kids had a great season and deserve to have fun, so we are going to Miami and the Orange Bowl because it will be a great reward and more fun than the pressure of a Rose Bowl game".

Paterno added that if nobody ends the bowl season undefeated his team will be #1 anyway unless President Bush interferes with the process.

Is it right to bring up the Nixon ordeal whenever Nixon publicly said later that he should not have done that?

Is it right to blame the president when Penn State could have accepted a Cotton Bowl bid to play the Texas vs Arkansas (#1 and #2 at the time--PSU was #3) winner???

My point is many (myself included) are poking fun at some of Wannstedt's faux paux's when his highness JoPa has had several of his own during his early days of coaching when outside of Pennsylvania, his comments/decisions were laughed at by others.

Wanny just start in the business, Roadie? The argument may be made that Wannstedt has more experience than even Joe Paterno does.
