SPORTS fever Television Network has expanded its annual basketball challenge format into three separate weekends which began this past Saturday at Lewistown High School with Challenge VIII.
Challenge IX, which is set for this Saturday at Trinity High School in Camp Hill, includes a pair of area teams experienced in state competition.
The P.I.A.A. Class (AAA) runner-up Greater Johnstown boys will take on Franklin Learning Center at 4 p.m. followed by the host Trinity Lady Shamrocks playing the P.I.A.A. Class (AA) runner-up Westmont Hilltop girls.
The defending District #6 champion Trojans (11-1), ranked fourth in the most recent Harrisburg-Patriot News poll, face the Class (AA) District #12 school which was 13-0 and ranked ninth in the poll.
The Lady Hilltoppers (14-1) are ranked third in the Patriot-News poll behind District #7 power Greensburg Central Catholic (14-0) and unbeaten Trinity (14-0).
Challenge X is set for Jan. 28 at Hempfield High School in Landisville near Lancaster.
Other teams that were included in the Patriot-News poll are the Bishop McCort girls (10-3), ranked seventh in Class (AA), North Star girls (13-1) in Class (AA) teams to watch and the Conemaugh Valley girls (10-2) in the Class (A) teams to watch.
The Central Cambria boys (13-0) are in the Class (AAA) teams to watch, Bishop McCort boys (10-3) in Class (AA) teams to watch and the Conemaugh Valley (10-2) and Berlin (9-3) boys in Class (A) teams to watch. Blairsville is currently the top-ranked team in the state in Class (A).

In what could be the first of three potential meetings, the Johnstown Trojans travel to Central Cambria on Wednesday for a Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference non-section game.
There is also the possibility that the two
teams could meet again in the L.H.A.C. title game as well as in the District #6 Class (AAA) playoffs.
With just one berth available to advance into the P.I.A.A. playoffs in the D#6-(AAA) bracket, the district clash would, of course, be the most critical of the three meetings with Lewistown, Bellefonte, Indian Valley, Forest Hills and Somerset thrown into the mix along with the Red Devils and Trojans.
One slip for any team in the Class (AAA) district playoffs and the season is over earlier than expected.
In District #6 Class (AA) and Class (A), three girls teams and three boys teams in each of the brackets advance into interdistrict play.
In District #5, the Class (AA) is set up the same way as Dist.#6- (AAA), with just the boys and girls champions advancing.
Three teams in #5-(A) move on into the PIAA playoffs.
Pennsylvania Football News released its 2005 All-Pennsylvania Teams this week and the area was well represented.
In Class (A), Portage had "12" players and District #6 Class (A) champion Bishop Carroll had seven earn recognition.
On the first team were Portage senior offensive lineman Rick Biem, sophomore defensive back Brandon Boyd of Ligonier Valley along with Bishop Carroll’s senior tight end Jeff Minemyer and senior linebacker Paul Forcellini.
Huskies’ senior offensive lineman Jarrett Polites and Windber junior specialist Josh Kotula were second-team choices.
On the third team were senior defensive backs Rory Marshall of Conemaugh Valley and Jared Bilchak of Portage, Bishop Carroll senior punter Brock Lauer and Blacklick Valley senior specialist Eric Goodrich.
