What does AAU really stand for?, you may ask. Well AAU stands for Amateur Athletics United. I have been playing AAU basketball for the past 5 years for Central Penn, and it has been a great time traveling and playing ball. We have traveled all over the place to different tournments and meet up with some great competition. We have won some tournaments and others ranked 2nd or 3rd. What gets me though, is when you tell people you are involved with AAU, me especially from a small town, they always look at you like what are you in that for, or what do you think you are? Better than us? Its not that at all, really its just applying myslef to better competition and having fun playing basketball. When I ask girls that are around my age to join AAU and to play they always say no and its a waste of money. I think its not a waste of money and I would like to see more girls from my area get involved with it. If you would like to add anything, I would be greatfull for your comments whether good or bad.

I know you play for a girls AAU team but how do you get involved in that? I'm a guy so it might be a different league or something. If you could give me someone to contact that would be great.

I played for central penn AAU and State College. They are definately worth the time and effort! I was lucky enough to advance to a tournament in Florida which lasted 11 days. Not only florida but you have the chance to travel to other parts of the state and near by states. Its a great opportunity to see how you compare to other areas. It wasnt even as time consuming as highschool basketball so i think it is definately worth it.
