A - Looks to be down this year. Anybody's to win. Could be a year where a team who doesn't usually make playoff runs wins.
AA - LHAC teams(McCort & Westy) have to be favorites. Don't know about Penns Valley this year but other JVL teams are down from last year due major losses from graduation.
Ligonier valley seems to put a decent team on the floor each year. They could be a darkhorse
AAA- Strong field. I like J-Town but many of the other AAA teams seem to almost always be playing their best ball at playoff time. Should be interesting.
AAAA- State College is loaded and now has the added benefit of knowing they belong in the state playoffs and can win. A very valuable aspect of a state playoff run. Hollidaysburg apparently has some good young players but they won't make a significant difference this season.

All classes together or separate?
At the AAA level I would take these players as my D-6AAA team:
C - Stewart (Lewistown)
PF - Dziabo (PC)
SF - Marcus Tullis (Johnstown)
SG - The SG from Lewistown
PG - Kozak (Huntington)
If all classes are together:
C - Buchannon( I think it's his name, from Altoona)
PF - Meister(State College)
SF - Tullis(Johnstown)
SG - Morse(State College)
PG - Kozak(Huntington)

I know that they always play Altoona twice and I'm pretty sure they play H-burg twice as well but I am not sure of when. Neither will be any match for SC this season. Even Hetz at Altoona and his slow it down keep the total score under 50 offense and then say you played good D plan will not work on these kids. SC will walk through D-6 in the playoffs and will only be tested by Penn Hills and possibly Connelsville of D-7.

I do agree that State College is one of teh best team in teh west and probably the prohibitive favorite to return to Hershey and represent the west in AAAA boys.
Their competition will come from the following teams:
Pitts City: Perry is the best team, but they play AAA. Oliver, Schenley, and Allderdice look to be the best in AAAA, but they're certainly far from world beaters.
District 10: Erie Prep has a very good team, as does Erie McDowell. They will battle it out for the District 10 AAAA title.
WPIAL: As far as I can see, WPIAL AAAA is WIDE open. Penn Hills, New Castle, and Mount Lebanon are the favorites, but by no means dominant. Here are 3 scores from this past weekend that prove that point:
Hempfield 58 Penn Hills 57
Perry 66 New Castle 53
Ringgold 58 Mount Lebo 56
Look for Chartiers Valley, Pine-Richland, Pitts CC, and Upper Saint Clair to contend as well. Hempfield, Shaler Area, North Allegheny, and Connellsville are darkhorses. I believe that these top 10-12 teams from the WPIAL are fairly evenly matched and can definitely beat one another.
State College plays at Shaler Area late in the season (Friday Feb. 6, 2004, I believe), and State also plays at Penn Hills on 1/24/03. Those games will be an indicator of how SC will fare vs. the WPIAL this season.
Honestly, State College minus GNorwood and Stupar will not be quite as formidable as last season, but they'll still be the team to beat in the west in AAAA. However, any of the top 5-6 WPIAL teams, as well as the two entries from Erie can challenge them.
