Rove foresees GOP victory

By Joseph Curl
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
October 18, 2006

White House political strategist Karl Rove yesterday confidently predicted that the Republican Party would hold the House and the Senate in next month's elections, dismissing fallout from the sex scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley.
At a luncheon with editors and reporters at The Washington Times, Mr. Rove -- who is widely credited as the architect of the party's historic 2002 midterm election gains -- said Republicans are beginning to make significant headway in defining their party's differences from congressional Democrats, especially on national security.
"I'm confident we're going to keep the Senate; I'm confident we're going to keep the House. The Foley matter has impact in some limited districts, but the research we have shows that people are differentiating between a vote for their congressman and a member from Florida," Mr. Rove said, referring to the Republican who resigned last month after his sexually explicit online messages to former congressional pages were discovered.
President Bush has begun to paint this year's election as a choice between strength and weakness on national security -- and the stark differences will show Americans the true nature of Democrats, Mr. Rove said.
"It is useful to remind people what [Democrats] said and what they do. I think they have given us here, especially in the last couple of weeks, a potent set of votes to talk about. You had 90 percent of House Democrats voting against the terrorist-surveillance program, nearly three-quarters of Senate Democrats and 80 percent of House Democrats voting against the terrorist-interrogation act. Something is fundamentally flawed."
In the hourlong interview, Mr. Rove was upbeat, telling stories from the campaign trail and joking about skewed political coverage that disproportionately shows Democrats poised to take control of Congress
Mr. Rove's optimism is not shared by pollsters, many of whom predict a Republican loss in the House -- with some saying the party could lose as many as 40 seats. The mood in the White House has shifted in recent days, with some beginning to concede the threat to the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, which they won in 1994.
Yesterday, Vice President Dick Cheney acknowledged the risk to the House Republican majority.
"I really think we're going to do reasonably well. And I think we'll hold the Senate, and I also think we got a good shot at holding the House," Mr. Cheney said on Rush Limbaugh's top-rated national radio program.
"I think the key will be who goes to the polls on Election Day. And certainly, it's always tough when you're in the midterm of your second presidential term in office."
But Mr. Rove said Republican candidates still hold a huge cash edge over Democrats, which will give them clout in the final three weeks of the campaign.
"This morning, I loved it: The [Associated Press] ran a story saying these Democrat congressional candidates outraised their Republican incumbents in the third quarter. Well, what they didn't say was that part of the reason that they did is that we raised the money earlier so that we'd be able to deploy it," he said.

No, the democrats must take over so we can pull out of Iraq, and subsequetntly collapse and be brought to complete destruction because the bible prophesies this.

I do think the Dems will make gains and can only hope it's enough to take over the house. The polls suggest numerous gains, but a lot can change in 2 weeks. The senate will be a lot tougher. It will be hard to gain enough seats in one election to get the 51 majority. It will be all the harder since Lieberman will probably win as an independent. Even if the dems don't win the senate, I am hopeful that Casey will unseat Santorum.

It's not so much that people are voting for the democrats this time around, but against the republicans. The party that has run on family values the last few elections has completely become unraveled. It took the democrats 40 years of legislative rule to fall apart and the republicans are trying to do it in just 12. Have you noticed that nobody is promoting family values in their ads this year? What a difference 2 years and numerous scandals can make!

The final two weeks of ads should be both interesting and nauseating. Both sides took the gloves off early and have left them off. Those in desparation mode should have some really nasty commercials in the near future.

It looks as if Casey will beat Santorum. What a shame. Casey Sr. was a stand up guy for a Dem. but Jr. is an empty suit. Have you ever heard the guy speak? Does he have a public legislative record? Has he ever written any legislation? What does he stand for? Like Santorum or not at least he is passionate and you know where he stands of the issues.

Casey Jr. is nothing more than a rubber stamp democrat running on his daddy's reputation!

Casey Jr. sounds like the teacher in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

I've heard Casey speak and he doesn't have much charisma, but that's ok. At least he can use words in the dictionary properly, unlike a certain president. Casey has never been in a position to write legislation. How much political experience did Eisenhower have when he took over as the president?

As far as what Casey stands for....look here.
Bob Casey on the Issues

I think the conservatives will actually find that they agree with Casey on some of the issues. Time will tell if he's just a rubber stamp. We do know that Rick Santorum is a rubber stamp for Bush....98% of the time! I suppose it's just a coincidence that Santorum's initials (RS) are the same as Rubber Stamp.

Its easy for Junior to say what he is for because he has no record on anything! That's the problem he running on daddy's rep! At least Santorum has a record. Maybe you don't like it but he's consistent in voting with his convictions and beliefs. I have a problem with having a US Senator represent us that hasn't had to put his beliefs to the test!

I see a lot of quotes on issues but no a voting record to back it up! We will see if sticks to his guns on abortion, guns, and see if does get a stance on those issues he doesn't have a position on yet!

Eisenhower had no political experience...Read your history...As sumpreme Allied Commander in the ETO the job was very political. Dealing with Britain and having our army on foreign soil and trying to massage the Free French and the Poles in the Coalition. Dealing with Roosevelt, Churchill, Monte, Patton, De Gaulle, etc. The D-Day invasion and partition of post-war Germany with the Soviets and Stalin.

No he was a politcal novice! No experience!

Debra A. Reed voted with her boss on Wednesday at African-American Research Library and Cultural Center near Fort Lauderdale. Her vote went smoothly, but boss Gary Rudolf called her over to look at what was happening on his machine. He touched the screen for gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis, a Democrat, but the review screen repeatedly registered the Republican, Charlie Crist.

I know I know we dems are not smart enough to use punch card ballots, we leave hanging chads. Or is it you guys count the votes.
