Though few may be interested in this topic, I bring it up to point out some interesting things. First, it appears that Everett has a young, but solid core of wrestlers with some potential. It is good to see them at least filling 11 spots in their first dual meet against Portage. Since becoming the latest addition to the Shade wrestling staff, I haven't had a chance to enter the Everett HS doors, but hopefully there are even more wrestlers waiting their chance to enter the line-up once weight adjustments have been made under the new NCAA-modeled rules. I pray that the line-up does not shrink.

This group of wrestlers was a fairly solid junior high wrestling team. However, if you haven't noticed, there is a tremendous group of wrestlers who have exited the Everett program and headed for dimmer colors. The most obvious of those is district runner-up Pete Westwood who has strapped on the Bison blue-and-white for his senior season. Also, leaving Everett this year was the Wiser boys who began their wrestling careers at Juniata Valley by pinning Claysburg opponents. Two others were also members of the Everett Junior High team several years ago. Cameron Corle has blossomed into one of Ridge's go to wrestlers and, if I'm not mistaken, P.J. Brett began wrestling when he was in junior high at Everett. He has appeared to be a solid 171 pounder for Bedford these days.

soooo... when did Everett become a junior college??

The Warriors have been doing surprisingly well in recent weeks. Even now without being able to fill the 171 weight class, they have picked up some nice wins. They beat Glendale which is probably the first time in many years and also picked up wins against Bellwood and a much improved Juniata Valley team.

Despite going after some tough competition at the Juniata duals, they may sneak into a District Dual spot.

I just want to publicly say how impressed I was with the way the Everett wrestlers wrestled and I think some of the 10th and 11th graders have a bright future.

Troxell surprised me with his fourth place finish. Unfortunately for Smeltzer, after beating Feathers (CR) a week ago, lost twice to him this weekend to keep him from going to regionals. And to make it more painful, he was beating Feathers in both matches.

I have never seen Coach Droz as animated as when Faust had Holderbaum pinned and Eichelberger began to slap the mat, but then drew his hand back. The unfortunate thing is that I heard from many schools, including CR that he was indeed pinned. That will take some quality experience away from Faust.

Probably the best round all weekend was the quarterfinal round. There were some great matches! To note for Everett: Bowman (4-23) took second-seed Hartrampf into overtime and Wilt wrestled Jaber tough, only losing 4-2 before being pinned late in the thrid period. I believe he go the initial takedown to take the early lead.

Despite no regional qualifiers, a job well done Everett!
