W.P.I.A.L. Football Coaching Change - Monaca ..............
1/19/2007 - To say that Sam Cercone is a busy guy when it comes to high school sports at Monaca is an understatement. He is the athletic director, the baseball coach and as of this week, the new football coach of the Indians.
Cercone, who has been an assistant coach at Monaca for ten years, was hired earlier this week by the school board to take over for Shawn McCreary. McCreary, who was the head coach of the Indians for six years, accepted the principal position at Monaca this past summer. McCreary was allowed to coach the Indians in the 2006 season with the plan to hire a new coach shortly after the season was over. Monaca finished the year with an overall record of 5-5 and qualified for the W.P.I.A.L. Class (A) playoffs.
Cercone intends to continue on as both the athletic director and baseball coach at Monaca, at least for another year.
