Raiders reportedly to hire USC's Kiffin....
Trojans' '31"-year-old offensive coordinator set to take over Silver & Black

NEW YORK - After being rejected by one assistant coach from Southern California, Al Davis is apparently turning to another.
The NFL Network reported Monday night that the Oakland Raiders are expected to name USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin as their coach.
Davis, the 77-year-old owner of the Raiders, failed to convince Steve Sarkisian, the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach of the Trojans, to take the Raiders job. But after Sarkisian withdrew his name from consideration, Davis went after Kiffin.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the "31"-year-old Kiffin interviewed with Davis last Thursday in Alameda and the two met again on Monday.
If Kiffin is hired, he would become the youngest coach in the NFL. That title belonged to 34-year-old Mike Tomlin, who was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
The son of longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, Lane Kiffin was a secondary coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2000. The following year, he joined Pete Carroll’s staff in USC as a tight ends coach. Lane Kiffin became the wide receivers coach in 2002 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2005.
Dwayne Jarrett, Mike Williams and Keary Colbert were among the receivers who flourished under Kiffin.
Davis fired coach Art Shell on January 4 after the Raiders finished with the league’s worst record at 2-14. It was the franchise’s worst record in the Davis era (1963-present).
In four seasons since losing to Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII, the Raiders have gone a woeful 15-49, losing at least 11 games in each campaign.
Once a proud franchise, the Raiders have become a laughingstock and an unpopular destination for many coaches because of Davis’ involvement in the day-to-day operation of the team.
The 32-year-old Sarkisian indicated one reason he turned down the job was because he wasn’t going to have enough say in personnel and staff decisions.
Former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel and Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan were also interviewed by Davis.
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is just 30, may also be interviewed since the Patriots were eliminated from the playoffs by Indianapolis on Sunday.
