W.P.I.A.L. Recruiting - Moye Headed to Happy Valley .....
1/25/2007 -

Rochester high School running back / defensive back Derek Moye, a member of the "2006" MSA Sports Elite Eleven team, will play his college football at Penn State University. The final decision announced Thursday at noon came down to Penn State beating out Pitt. Moye also had offers from West Virginia, Boston College, Cincinnati, Temple and Miami of Ohio.

Moye told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he made up his mind a few days ago before discussions with Pitt coaches on the phone and a visit from Penn State coach Joe Paterno on Wednesday.

The 6’5” 180-pound Moye will play wide receiver at Penn State. He has very good speed, athleticism, hands, and height.

Mr. Everything for the Rochester Rams, Moye rushed for 1,019 yards on 148 attempts and caught 16 passes for 430 yards this past season. He also lined up sometimes at quarterback and was a standout at defensive back. He finished his career at Rochester with 2,486 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns.

One of WPIAL’s best athletes, Moye played basketball and baseball at Rochester, plus he ran track where he swept the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes at last spring’s W.P.I.A.L. Class (AA) track championships.

Look. The kid played single A football and made ONLY 16 receptions ALL SEASON and PSU is taking him as a WR. Was rated as a three star prospect. There are lots of those. The kid is nothing special. Makes me wonder why a topic was devoted to him.

I'm just saying what's the BIG TA-DO over a 3 star kid who played Single A and caught less than 2 passes per game, that's all. He supposedly had 9 scholarship offers, so talent does exist. BUT WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL????? The real reason that he got attention on here was because he chose PSU over Pitt. Otherwise he would not have been mentioned. No one mentioned 4 star Devon Still who verbaled to Penn State earlier in the week. Why? Because Pitt wasn't involved. So you see, the Pitt-Penn State rivalry still exists, despite what Paterno, and you younger guys, think.

You apparently have no idea how valuable a wpial kid is to the psu roster. this kid carried Rochester to great heights with his gifts. he can do whatever psu asks him to do, because (1) he's from the wpial (2) he's from beaver county. that adds winner to psu automatic, something you bedford county losers would never understand.

Acutally the post was made my the Chops who doesn't post in anything PSU-Pitt related. He often posts news from the AP, especially D6 and D7 information. Good get for PSU because they need a 6'5" type of WR, and he is one with speed as seen in his 100,200, and 400 track results. A or AAAA, guys are good at any level. Hynoski, Marks, Moye...those are 3 guys I know off the top of my head who are A level players who picked either Pitt or PSU.
