Ok, I get up today and look at the newspaper and I see the seedings for the upcoming playoffs. Then I look a little farther to see that the best 3 teams in the AA bracket are all in the same half of their bracket. Bishop McCort has to play Central in the quarterfinals and the loser doesnt even get a chance at states. Even if you win that game you get undefeated top seeded Westmont in the semifinals. Now you cant tell me that Blairsville and Bellwood Antis are better than BM and Central. They need a system where you get rewarded for playing in a tougher conference against tougher opponents. Blairsville and Bellwood have 1 other team that gievs them a good game in their conference, BM and Central play tough competition every other game. I'm willing to bet that Blairsville would be around 14-10 in the LHAC and Bellwood probably under .500. (earlier in the year B-A lost to Central Cambria by 40) This will all lead up to a lopsided championship game, where the Hilltoppers will feast on these lesser teams and have themselves a field day in Loretto, while teams like McCort and Central that are more deserving will be at home.

Couldnt agree more bigfan. Like u said Bellwood wasnt even competitive in their game earlier in the year vs CC. And in their only other game vs LHAC competition, they only beat the lowly BC Huskies by 8. I'm interested in seeing B-A face off against McCort or Central, because I think it wont even be a game between the 4 and 5 seeds or whatever they will be.

Blairsville got killed by CC as well (20 point loss) but I dont think they are as bad as Bellwood. Ostach is their main man, and if you contain him you win the game. It's that simple.

Also, the D6's argument would probably be that they award points for the school's classes that you play against (A is worth less than AA, AA is worth less than AAA, etc.) But the problem with this is that not all teams of a certain classification are the same. Believe me, a win against a AA team like Central or McCort is definitely not the same as a AA win against Tyrone or Penns Valley, even though they're worth the same amount of points statistically.

This probem not only exsists in basketball. See Cheasnut Ridge football prior to the 2007 season.

This problem exists in the girls bracket where the section 2 and possible LHAC girls champion Westmont is a 6 seed in AA. I might add below teams they have already beaten in Central, McCort. Problem is that the 6-3 team must go to the eastern bracket this year, meaning that we could have potentially sent one of our best teams out East. "luckily" and I use that term loosley, the bracket worked out to have westy and McCort on oposite sides.

AA boys’ seedings changed

District 6 basketball chairman T.J. Kakabar has issued a correction to the Class AA boys’ bracket which will impact several area teams.

An error was discovered in the calculation of Penns Valley’s power points. Originally listed as the seventh seed, the Rams are now fourth and will play fifth-seeded Central in the quarterfinals at a site and time to be announced.

The change also affected several other Mirror-area squads. Philipsburg-Osceola moved from the sixth seed to seventh and will play Tyrone in the first round on Feb. 20 in the second game of a 6-AA boys doubleheader at Huntingdon Area High School.

While remaining the third seed, Bellwood-Antis will now play the winner of Bishop McCort and West Branch in the quarterfinals. Originally, the Blue Devils were slated to meet either P-O or West Branch.

Kakabar also released the sites and times for games scheduled for Feb. 19-21.

In games involving area teams on Feb. 19, Central Cambria will take on United in Class AA girls at 6 p.m. followed by Bishop Carroll playing Saltsburg in Class A girls at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Penns Manor High School.

In addition to the Tyrone/P-O game on Feb. 20, the Penn Cambria and Mount Union boys square off in a Class AA opening-round game at Huntingdon at 6 p.m. The Williamsburg girls will also be in action that night, playing Homer-Center in a 6 p.m. Class A tipoff at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.

The Huntingdon boys and girls will be part of a doubleheader at Hollidaysburg Junior High on Feb. 21. The Bearcats will get things started against Johnstown at 6 p.m., to be followed by the Lady Bearcats and Forest Hills. Both of those games are in the Class AAA brackets.

I do not thing Bellwood is bad. Did not they beat BG, ranked in the top ten A boys teams last week?

well when it comes down to it, the best team usually wins. If you think you are a true contender for the state championship, then distance wont make a difference...usually the two best teams make it to the D6 championship, and if it were up to me, only one team from each district would move on, but i believe the system isnt that bad, baring a few instances here and there..

Didn't they change the seedings again in D6AA. How complicated is this? And tell me, how do all the teams that are in the LHAC get placed in the same half of the bracket?

Here is what I think happened with all the seedings being switched around. After the original seeds came out, someone must have realized Penns Valley should not have been as low as they were because they are like 17-4 and Philipsburg was ahead of them at like 13-9. Then they redid Penns Valley's points and figured it out that they should be the 4th seed, bumping back Central, McCort and P-O. Then after all this was changed and announced to the public, today there were changed for a 2nd time. Someone probably had it figured out for themselves (which is possible to do if you know the formula they use, which most coaches probably do) that the rankings were still not right. I'm guessing it was Bellwood who called in and complained because they would now have to play McCort 1st round and Central play Penns Valley. Well anyway, the committee must have gone back and added and figured out all the points for themselves instead of using the papers that were handed in by each school with all their games and points. I figured out the rankings myself using Maxpreps and the rankings now are all correct as they should be. My guess would be that Bishop McCort must have filled their paper out wrong or added something wrong and their points were not as they should have been. That is really confusing and its only an assumption of what happened im not 100% on this stuff. And about all the LHAC teams in the same bracket, it just so happened that it came out that way, which is a shame because the 3 best teams in my opinion are in the same bracket.

Here are the new matchups that should be the real ones now barring anymore revisions (which would be ridiculous)

The McCort- Central matchup will be the only exciting early round game, I would think.
Then you get some excitement with either BM or Central against Westmont in the semis and Blairsville vs PV or B-A. Then the championship will be a major blowout: PREDICTION WESTMONT HILLTOP 76 BLAIRSVILLE 52
3RD PLACE BM OR CENTRAL OVER PV OR B-A
