a penny wouldnt reach the bottom of the empire state building because winds blow into the side of the building causing the penny to hit the side of the building repeatedly

the answer to the penny off the empire state building is somewhere between 55-60 mph...no certain speed can be determined unless the test is made in a vacuum...

very true both of u....becuase of the tiered design of the building and the wind, a penny would never reach the ground, it would land on the roof of one of the lower tiers. and there are too many variables to determine the actuall speed, air friction, wind currents, flying debris....this question has no definite answer so i believe bison1 should have to donate to us all

but i was the one that has the answer considering there were no variables, but ive seen muiltiple websites with multiple answers, so really what is the right one

The answer I got for a penny's terminal velocity was 106 mph. I'm guessing this was calculated by the pennie's mass, the gravitational constant and assuming it was dropped in a straight line with no interference from wind pressure. Since it was done through calculations you'd have to assume it was in a vaccum. No one gets any points. Gunner can give them to you if he's feeling pity.

objects rate of speed due to acceleration due to gravity
time sec....speed ft/sec.......distance
1......36.......................36
2......72......................108
3......108....................216
4......144....................360
5......180....................540
6......216....................756
7......252...................1008
8.......288...................1296

After 8 seconds the penny will have fallen 1296 ft. (approximate height of empire state building 1250-1300 feet) and will be going at a rate of 288 ft/sec
288 ft /sec. x 60 sec/ min= 17,280 ft / min
17,280 ft/min x60 min /hr = 1,036,800 ft / hr
1,036,800 ft /hr divided by 5280 ft / mi = 196.36 mi /hr
Q. What's the difference between IMPOSSIBLE and POSSIBLE?
A. IM
