NEWS & NOTES of INTEREST.......
Making it to the W.P.I.A.L. Class (AAA) Semifinals is nothing new for Thomas Jefferson coach Bill Cherpak. This is the 10th year in a row he’s done it. But this season is different than the others because Cherpak just might be doing his best coaching job this season.

Where The Pros Are From:
This is from the did you know department. De La Salle High in Concord, California, and Long Beach Poly in Long Beach, California, have the most graduates in the N.F.L. this year.
On opening day rosters, both schools had six former players in the N.F.L. Cleveland Browns linebacker Willie McGinest and Winston Justice of the Philadelphia Eagles are two of the Long Beach Poly grads. Amani Toomer of the New York Giants and D.J. Williams of the Denver Broncos are two of the De La Salle graduates.
DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland, and Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, had five players on N.F.L. rosters.
Sixteen schools had four N.F.L. players. Woodland Hills was one of "29" schools with three N.F.L. players – Steve Breaston of the Cardinals, Shawntae Spencer of the "49"ers and Jason Taylor of the Dolphins. Fullback Lousaka Polite was eventually signed by the Bears, but wasn’t on the opening day roster.
California was the state with the most N.F.L. players at "209". Pennsylvania was tied for ninth with "49".

Where Are They Now?
* Former Plum basketball standout Mike McKee started one of Kent State’s first two games and is averaging "13" points. He is 5 of 15 from "3"-point range.
* Former Blackhawk High star Archie Miller is now an assistant coach at Ohio State. He was at North Carolina State and Arizona State under Herb Sendek, but came to Ohio State this season.
* In case you didn’t know, the guy coaching the undefeated University of Kansas football team is from the WPIAL. Mark Mangino is from New Castle
