It is with great sadness that I must report the loss of a friend of Johnstown area sports. Joe Corle, longtime Ferndale School Board Member, and local sports announcer passed away this weekend.
Our area will truly miss Joe. My prayers go out to Trish and her family.
Saturday night, Joe was in his finest form announcing the LHAC Championship games at the War Memorial. I can remember him doing Trojan games on the radio when I played back in the 80's. May God bless Joe and his family at this tough time

OMG, This was the guy we we talking about in last week's thread about Ferndale and we were kiddingly saying how his wife deserves a medal.

How sad...here today and gone tomorrow. I met the guy one time very briefly at Windber a few years back. Seemed like a nice fellow. That said, it sounds like Joe left a great impression on local sports, and sounds like he was an extremely committed father/husband/friend.

My deepest sympathies to the Corle family, from WPIAL-land. May God be with you during this great loss. May you lovingly and fondly remember with pride and happiness the many, many good things that Joe stood for as well.

I'm sure that Joe is standing on the platform in heaven receiving his gold medal today.

Deepest sympathy and God's blessings to the Corle family. I will always remember Joe as "the voice of the War Memorial Invitational Tournament".

I can hear him calling a game in Heaven right now. Those over 35 on here will remember Joe's classic line during a bonus free throw......."Moses at the line shooting a One.......(long pause)..........and...........(long pause)............One."

God Speed Joe!

I can remember Joe coming to a practice when I played at Johnstown. He was working on boxing out with us. After about 10 minutes of rebounding and boxing Joe out he tells me "Cal, just throw the elbow and hit me in the chin already." He was old school, and a great basketball guy. To this day, anyone who has played against me can attest, that the elbow on the rebound is always up.
Im glad another generation of area hoop players got to have a game announced by Joe on Saturday.
