Television coverage of local football

Post by tvguy »

I was just wonder what everyones thoughts about local television coverage are? Do you like just watching the highlights or would your rather see an entire game broadcast of local high school match-ups?

I would like to see more coverage! I think a "game of the week" televising the whole game would be great.

The television station that I work for has tasked me to put together high school football coverage this fall. I believe that people would enjoy watching an entire game from different schools each week. Last season we covered eight games from the Central PA region as a test. This season I want to reach out to the far reaches of the stations viewing area so that even the smaller schools will have a chance to be on television.

I think its a great idea. I think this area will be very supportive. There are good programs that have great support.

I like the Thursday night HS games on FSN, so I would definately like seeing local teams on TV.

If you show games on a channel no one watches and promote them on a channel no one watches then no one watches.

Are we talking about LIVE football coverage of entire games?

For now the games would be tape-delayed as they were last season. We've talked about airing them live, but there are a lot of things that need to be in place for that to happen such as equipment and approval from those involved.

At the present time we will tape the entire games on Friday nights and replay them the following Wednesday starting at 6 PM. In my planning for the 2010 season I have tried to incorporate new school districts to allow as many student athletes to have the chance of seeing themselves on television. I want to try and work with the school districts, booster clubs, bands, cheerleaders, student body, and the local community to bring television back to the people who matter. At one time television stations where a part of the community.....now they just do thirty second sound bites on the negative. The station that I work for might be small at the moment but we want be the ones that help show the pride of the central PA communities that we serve. Any help that anyone can provide me to reach this goal would be appreciated.
