Pitt dominated on both lines of scrimmage.
You will hear no cry-baby excuses from me. Pitt got their collective butts kicked at the line scrimmage on both sides of the football. Until they shore up those areas, they are going to be very mediocre.
As a Pitt fan, I know it is going to take a few years for Wannstedt to bring in the type of lineman that he needs to play his brand of football. He is trying to install the power game with finesse lineman who were recruited to play in Walt Harris' West Coast Offense. On the other side of the ball Harris was never able to bring in the big defensive lineman either.
To get an example of what a big, strong, experienced offensive line can do, Pitt needs to look no further than their opponents last night. Quinn had all day to throw and Walker had lots of daylight to run to.
It was a good lesson for the Panthers last night.
I have a question for Turkovich..........I bumped into hilltoppanther in the parking lot at Heinz Field last night. He relayed a story to me told to him by one of your relatives who sits in Section 236. Your relative told him that when he found out Walt Harris and his staff were not recruiting you, he called offensive line coach Freeman to tell him about you. Your relative said that Freeman never called you back. That is unreal. No wonder our lines suck like they do. I guarantee Wannstedt would have called you back.

Penn State needs this type of offensive linemen. Boy their offensive line stinks.
Why?

Yeah true but the season is not over yet! Plus ND is a better team than South Florida and heck they shut PSU down!

Pitt has not won a game in 8 months. Penn State is undefeated.

The difference between PSU now, and ten years ago, is that 10 years ago their performance against a team like South Florida would have been unacceptable and a cause for concern. Nowadays, it's a reason to tear down the goalposts, just because they didn't lose. Even the headlines in today's Tribune sports section read PENN STATE WINS BIG. Really???? At this point at Penn State, any win, any way, against body is an achievement. Times have sure changed in State college.

I guess they did win big. They won by 10, I guessed they'd win by 6.

Heaven and Hoops,
Good post, you are absolutely correct. Pitt's O and D lines were atrocious at best. Let's remember one thing though: this was ND's most experienced and seasoned O-line ever, according to Coach Weis.
Pitt had better solve their problems with the DL and LBs on defense or it's going to be a long season filled with disappointment.

Pitt didn't recruit me and neither did Penn St. but teams like LSU came to recruit me
The winner ain't always the one with the fastest car....it's the one who refuses to lose!
