In light of the current massive-scale tragedy unfolding in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, I'd like to be the first American in line to thank the following:
1. I'd like to thank France for sending at no cost to us, 100 metric tons of medical and first aide supplies, as well as the over one hundred medical teams. The American sick and elderly who have been displaced at least won't have to worry about their medical conditions.
2. I'd like to thank Canada for sending donations of 150 eighteen-wheel truck loads of bottled water, and the 100 eighteen-wheel truck loads of camping supplies, batteries, and canned foodstuff. Also the pledge of another 100 truck loads per month until all our hungry and displaced citizens have water to drink, and food to eat, and at least temporary shelter.
3. I'd like to thank Saudi Arabia for sending 10 supertankers of free refined oil, as well as pledges for 10 more, each month until we are back on our feet in oil production.
4. I'd like to thank all the other oil-rich Arabic countries for sending a donation of 100,000,000 Euros to be used for rebuilding our devastated small and large towns and cities, as well as pledges for 10,000,000 more, each month until we are back on our feet, and our homeless have shelter.
5. I'd like to thank China for sending 10 superfreighters full of free clothing, footware, furniture, computers and computer parts, as well as pledges for 10 more, each month until our technological superstructure in the three devastated states is restored, and until all the citizens who have lost everything, have clothes to wear.
6. I'd like to thank the various nations of NATO for pledging to make up the money and troop commitments made by the US, and waving our commitments until our country is back on its feet.
7. I'd like to thank the many industrialized nations who have been partners with the US, in humanitarian aid, world-wide economic reforms, and ecological goals, for stepping up and taking the lion's share of those continued endeavors, until such time as we can contribute again to these causes.
8. I'd like to thank the hundreds of poor nations who have benefited from American aid both medical and monitary, food supplies and donations, health improvement, tsunami assistance, military intervention to stop 'ethnic cleansing', infrastructure assistance, economic aid, and hundreds of other desperate interventions in the past, who have now come to the aid of their former benefactor in its' hour of need.
9. I'd like to thank Russia for mobilizing their military might and replacing American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq by using their own troops, so that those American troops can come home, and help in rebuilding America's devastated southern coast.
10. I'd like to thank Mexico for sending three Battalions of Mexican police and soldiers to maintain the Mexican/US border, freeing up thousands of US Marshals, INS staff, Texas Rangers, and National Guard troops, that all can now be deployed into the area of devistation.
I'd LIKE to thank the above for the above, but I can't because it did not, and will not happen. Why? Because we stand alone. Again. We will survive this, but not because anyone helped us. We will need to do this ourselves.
I say, once the devestation has been repaired, and the daily lives of Americans can resume again, we close the borders, stop all aid to any and all countries not helping us now that we could use some help ourselves.
Now I can get down off of my soap box.

Absolutely. But the next time someone complains about 30 million or whatever it was not being enough when another country needs help from a natural disaster, slap 'em along side the head - hard.

LP- I agree with you. The headlines read this is our "tsunami". The world pitched in last december, but will they now? Let's not hold our breaths. As an example, there are 10 tankers loaded with fuel from Europe headed here. Not to give to the devastated area, but to SELL here because the price is so high now, they look to make a killing in the short-term fuel market. But Germany IS sending pumps for the flooded areas.

glad we at least got something from the other countries....i was a little suprized with cuba helping...i dunno, just struck me as odd.
