Will the Dems attempt to block the Roberts nomination?
Re: Will the Dems attempt to block the Roberts nomination?
Don't get me wrong, GW has done a fantastic job the past 5 years. Many of you won't agree with me on that, but hey it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
In the past couple of decades, the Supreme Court has moved from intrepeters of the Constitution to legislating from the bench. The judiciary branch of government has more power than any other branch, and that's wrong.
Bush believes in strict constitionalists on the bench, and that's what we need. This is one of the reasons parties win elections - to get their values through the judiciary. You're right that the Chief Justice is only one vote, but he/she is still the "CEO" on the bench. And Thomas and Scalia fit the mold for conservatives. This is a chance to shape the bench for decades to come, and he better be right about Roberts.
On another note, he will now have to nominate a justice to fill O'Conner's position. I just hope that he gives us someone that isn't a question mark this time. I don't want to hear this crap that he has to nominate a moderate. He doesn't. He has to nominate a strict conservative in the mold of Thomas and Scalia. Conservatives control 2 branches of government - it's time to act like it.

Apparently the answer to the question of this post is NO. Roberts was confirmed 78-22 with little fanfare and his name was not dragged through the mud. Yeah, he had a few tough questions along the way, but he handled them well. Nobody ever condemned him as person.

Just wait till GW's NEXT nominee. If it's a woman, Hispanic, or black, they'll get an ANAL exam like they've never seen. Everyone knows the Dems copped out just for this reason. The most idiotic questions regarded things that could have come up before him on the bench, like Roe v. Wade, etc. If he gives an answer one way or another, that's like he's already rendering his official judgement, and he chose not to do that, so the Dems whined about his lack of answers.
