TAE Top 25
Here it is, folks. The real top 25, not some AP or Coaches Poll bullsh*t. I see more games than probably all those bozos and being the expert I am, I have full right and knowledge to post a true top 25. No playing favorites, no politics.
You lose, you drop 7 automatic spots. If it works out where the team that just beat you ends up ranked 1 spot behind you, it flip-flops.
WEEK 5:
TOP 25:

1. Southern Cal: (4-0)
- Came back and beat Arizona State like I knew they would.
2. Florida State: (4-0)
- Beat a very helpless Syracuse squad.
3. Virginia Tech: (5-0)
- Beat undefeated WVU and sunk the Big East.
4. Texas: (4-0)
- Handled a bad Missouri team easily.
5. Georgia: (4-0)
- Bye
6. Ohio State: (3-1)
- Bye
7. Alabama: (5-0)
- Put a beating on the undefeated Gators.
8. Miami: (3-1)
- Took care of USF.
9. Notre Dame: (4-1)
- Destroyed an over-rated Purdue squad.

- Short week no problem for Vols.

My top 25 are:
1) Texas
Holding court against Missouri is not a bad thing, and beating Ohio State gives them the inside track to the Rose Bowl.
2) Virginia Tech
Beating up on WVU at Morgantown and playing solid ball on both sides may propel the Hokies to Pasadena
3) USC
This team drops two spots because they are suddenly vulnerable. Falling behind 13-10 (to Oregon) and 21-3 (to Arizona State) in the first half is not a good way to play football, even if they can hang up 35 in the second half. If this keeps up, The Fighting Irish may win if they can play defense in the second half.
4) Florida State
Still unbeaten, and getting that burden of Miami off at the beginning of the season is a great way to start.
5) Ohio State
Looking very solid in Big Ten play, and has a big game at Happy Valley coming up.
6) Georgia
Looking very, very solid and could possibly win the SEC
7) Tennessee
Beating LSU at home and MSU adds credibility to a squad that still hasn't completely figured it out yet
8) Alabama
This is why a spread offense may not be a great idea in the SEC. 31-3 isn't exactly a close game.
9) Notre Dame
Has the offense to take advantage of USC's first half shortcomings and take a huge lead, but do they have the defense to hang on in the last two quarters. Blowout over Purdue a huge confidence builder.
10) Miami
Taking care of the Big lEast team that handed Louisville a blowout loss looks better on paper than it actually is. Still not a bad win though.
11) LSU
How do you allow the Vols to come back from a 21 point deficit? Still a contender, and still has only one loss.
12) Florida
They blew out UK a few weeks back, but that's nothing. Bama just blew out the Gators. Back to the drawing room.
13) UCLA
There's nobody else I can put here, as the entire Pac 10 is overrated. But beating Oklahoma is good, and they may be able to take a show at USC as well, if they have defense.
14) Boston College
Blowing out Ball State isn't hard, but this is still a contender in the ACC.
15) Michigan State
OT loss at home against Michigan is, if there is such a thing, a good loss, one that teams can learn from.
16) Wisconsin
One of two remaining undefeated teams in the Big Ten. Taking down Michigan a couple weeks back will be a huge booster to Barry Alverez' last team.
17) Texas Tech
Still hasn't really played anybody, though apparently they couldn't hang half a hundred on a living, breathing opponent (that's still nobody).
18) California
There is almost nobody else I can place here, as there is rarity of good teams. 5-0 is a good start, but they still haven't played anybody. Going to UCLA next week will expose their QB situtation, and expose this team as pretenders.
19) Penn State
Beating Minnesota is one thing, but blowing out the Gophers 44-14 is another. They may be BCS bound if they can beat Ohio State and/or Michigan over the next two weeks. If they can beat OSU, they can handle anybody on their schedule. If not, they are still a really good team.
20) Michigan
Beating MSU in OT shows some guts, but how did they let them come back from a 14-0 lead? This is a team that is capable of beating almost anybody, but they can still lose to a lesser opponent as well.
21) Georgia Tech
Losing to Virginia Tech wasn't a fluke, but surely the score being 51-7 was. This team isn't 51-7 worse than VT, though they sure played like it. The rest of the schedule will show how good this team is, or isn't.
22) Auburn
Blowing out Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks isn't a bad feat, though Spurrier hasn't got the people to work his offense- yet.
23) TCU
Still hasn't lost since looking past SMU, and they are being dominant in Mountain West play.
24) Minnesota
They aren't 44-14 worse than the Nits, but they didn't come to play in Happy Valley. Nonetheless, there doesn't appear to be any way they would have won against PSU's A game.
25) Nebraska
Hasn't beaten anybody, but all other options are apparently worse.

Deserve to drop after losing to the Huskers
Louisville
Beating FAU does not make you better. Like it or not, USF 45, UL 14
Arizona State
Giving up an 18 point lead in one half of football is inexcusable. Giving up 35 points in one half is possibly worse. That is not the play of a Top 25 team, and I refuse to put them there for right now.
Oregon
Rebounded against Stanford, but see above. It was only a 3 point lead, but they gave up 45 unanswered points to USC, 35 in the 2nd half.
Purdue
Sorry, getting beat by Notre Dame is one thing, and getting blown out by them is quite another.

Good teams win close games, flea. They make the right adjustments and they find ways to win games when they are down. USC is absolutely the best team in this country. Showing vulbnerability means nothing, they won the games. And that Oregon game ended up a blowout.
I agree with you Fleaflicker people have USC in the top spot just because they went all the way last year but it is a new year and just because they were there last year doesn't mean they are the best team in the country this year and USC has not played a complete game against any top team yet and Texas has.

Yes, good teams do win close games. They are still ranked at number 3. They did go down 21-3 though, and while they can get away with that in the Pac-10, if they were in the SEC or ACC playing a tough team, they would have been exposed. Texas could have hung up just as much (maybe more) in the first half and finished off the second half by not allowing the comeback. The same for Virginia Tech. So right now, USC is good, but they are not better than Texas or Virginia Tech. However, if they fix their first half struggles and play a complete game, I might carefully consider moving them back to number 1.
Until then, Notre Dame has got to feel like they've got a chance against USC. Notre Dame has the offense to hang 28 on them in the first half if USC comes out flat, and they might be able to play enough defense and/or be good enough on offense (a couple more scores) to keep USC from coming back. You cannot deny a team that hung 49 on Purdue.

Looking back over the weekend, TAE regained his lead that he lost over the week. After a 51 game weekend, he established a 2 game advantage by picking 3 more right than me.
TAE was 39-12 over the weekend to push his overall record to 222-57, while I floundered a little, going 36-15 to push my overall mark to 220-59. However, with almost 300 games down, there are still about 600 left to go, which means I shall regain my dominance and reign supreme! I mean um, maybe I will regain my lead and reign supreme. TAE, since deliverence is so ticked about our 'club', what should we name it? The no deliverence club (lol)?
