Weekend Picks (week 7)

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Wake Forest vs. Boston College:
=====================
- Unlike Flea, I see the teams for what they really are. I see a Wake Forest team who has little upward potential because of the conference they are in. The teams are simply too good. For Wake to win the ACC, it's going to take a momumentous coach to come into that program and win games with what little talent is there before he arrives (i.e. recruited by someone else). For that coach to get better players and be 100% competitive, he needs to win a few games in his first few seasons that they absolutely should not win. THAT is how new coaches, at schools in positions like Wake Forest, gain upward progress. That being said, Wake STILL continues to catch people sleeping on a yearly basis. Wake Forest is not a team from the Sun Belt. Sticking a team like Wake or Arkansas or Ole Miss or North Carolina into a less-prestigious conference would show you just how good they are. Arkansas going 6-5 or 5-6 with losses to Tennessee, FLA, Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia, does not necessarily mean they are bad football teams. It shows that it takes babysteps to win games in colossal conferences. And you need to catch a break once in awhile. Last season, Wake Forest had 7 losses. ONE of those losses was by more than 1 touchdown. This stuff doesn't happen overnight, folks. Last year, they BEAT Boston College. The ACC is the worst conference for a team like Wake to be in. And no one, at all, benefited from the expansion except the people at the top rolling in the money. BC by 13.

Wisconsin vs. Minnesota:
==================
- This is Alvarez's last season in Madison. Wisconsin is pulling a classic Wisconsin move by starting out great and then showing immense weakness. Last week: 700 yards of offense allowed to Northwestern. Minnesota has a history of being inconsistent. Despite the win last week in Ann Arbor, this team is still herky-jerky. Give me the Gophers at home.

Alabama vs. Ole Miss:
=================
- Roll Tide.

Rutgers vs. Syracuse:
===============
- By no way, shape, or form will Syracuse win this game. They have the worst offense in the world.

Michigan State vs. Ohio State:
=====================
- Everyone is sleeping on MSU again. Let's not forget that this team beat Notre Dame and a host of others. They lost a rivalry game by a field goal in front of 100,000 fans. Michgan State is still the best team in the Big Ten, and will win this game.

UNLV vs. Air Force:
==============
- I went from old-school Chevys, to drop-top Porsches. You couldn't walk a mile off in my Air Forces. You ain't seen what I seen, I can get a hundred-thou' in these Sean John jeans. Falcons.

Indiana vs. Iowa:
============
- The accusations never stop. People sleep on Iowa too, regardless of the fact that anything can happen in a rivalry game. They lost to Iowa State. Big deal. They lost to OSU. Big deal. Drew Tate is still the quarterback of this football team. Kirk Ferentz is still the head coach. And then there's those who cast a negative light on Terry Hoeppner. Do we need any more examples of what confidence will do to a team? Give the credit where it is due. Indiana kicked the sh*t out of two teams they would have lost to last year: UK and Illinois. They only lost that Wisconsin game 41-24. That's not a blowout. They were not late-game TD's either. Blake Powers is the real deal, dawg. I dunno how they got him in Bloomington, but they did. This kid broke the school record for passing TD's halfway into the season! He has 18 TD's! But give me Iowa by 3, even though I think this is an upset.

Kansas State vs. Texas Tech:
====================
- Listen. Nebraska played Tech tough last week because the Nebraska secondary is pretty solid. They have 2 kids that are going to be drafted, Bullocks for sure. Don't read too much into these close games. They matched up well with a passing-attack offense. No letdown this week. Texas Tech will destroy Kansas State.

Miami vs. Temple:
============
- Wallace is done after this year, I guess. I can't imagine this team being any worse with no head coach at all.

Ohio vs. Central Michigan:
==================
- Solich is on the right track. But not there yet. CMU by 12.

Northwestern vs. Purdue:
===================
- The Big 10 was frothing at the mouth over the fact that Purdue returned all 11 defensive starters this year. This was going to be the year Purdue actually showed it's worth. Once again, Joe Tiller disappoints. Here's another disappointment: Northwestern by 15. You better fire this bozo.

Bowling Green vs. Buffalo:
==================
- Only team with less offense than Buffalo is Syracuse. BGSU by 20.

Kent State vs. Navy:
===============
- Navy by 10.

Iowa State vs. Missouri:
=================
- The only team worse than Missouri is Iowa State. But something tells me ISU is going to pull this out. When 2 idiot coaches face one another, it's a tough decision. Give me Missouri.

Akron vs. Miami Ohio:
================
- MoHo in a tough one.

USF vs. Pittsburgh:
=============
- As much as I think Pitt will win this somehow, it's too hard to imagine Wanny has his mind right. USF by 2.

Toledo vs. Ball State:
================
- The only team worse than Syracuse is Ball State.

East Carolina vs. SMU:
===============
- I told you. I am not picking Spanky Holtz. SMU.

New Mexico vs. Wyoming:
==================
- Big conference win for the Cowboys.

Penn State vs. Michigan:
================
- Enormous test for the Nittany Lions, as they look to avenge 6 straight losses to the Wolves. No better place than in Ann Arbor. Lions win 6-4.

Oregon State vs. Cal:
================
- Cal by 25.

USC vs. Notre Dame:
================
- 2 weeks to prepare. Charlie Weis. Heisman candidate QB. Resurging credibilty. And a program with 4 losses, and no wins, to USC when they are ranked #1. USC will beat Notre Dame at Notre Dame.

Florida vs. LSU:
============
- I see Les Miles is right back to his old tricks from when he was in Sweetwater: losing close games and blowing leads. UF by 40.

Georgia Tech vs. Duke:
=================
- Tech by 15.

Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M:
======================
- They CAN NOT lose to a team like Oklahoma State. C'mon, Denny, get your f***ing act together!!!! PLEASE! A&M.

Colorado vs. Texas:
================
- I think Rape U. is severely under-rated. Charles is a great back and Klatt is very experienced and capable of harassing this suspect UT secondary. Give me UT by 6, in this the first of 2 battles between these two.

Louisville vs. West Virginia:
==================
- No more letdowns. Cardinals by 16.

Troy vs. LA Monroe:
==============
- The only team that could lose to LA Monroe is Syracuse.

Washington vs. Oregon:
===============
- Heated rivalry between the northwest states. Ducks by 19.

Tulsa vs. Rice:
============
- Rice, you really hurt my feelings last week by getting your asses handed to you by East Carolina. That really made me sad. And sick. Tulsa by 30.

UCONN vs. Cincinnati:
===============
- I think this Connecticut team is a lot better than you peeps give them credit for.

Middle Tennessee State vs. Florida Atlantic:
============================
- MTSU by 5.

Louisiana Tech vs. Nevada:
===================
- I just can't pick Nevada. Tech by 6.

Eastern Michigan vs. Northern Illinois:
==========================
- Fightin' Emu's are better but still not good. No Illy by 14.

Memphis vs. Houston:
================
- Houston can and will score from anywhere on the field. Cougs by 14.

Colorado State vs. BYU:
==================
- State is too good to let this shoddy team get a win over them.

San Jose State vs. Boise:
=================
- Boise wins another game by 4 points over a terrible team.

San Diego State vs. Utah:
==================
- Utah. I hate 'em, but I'll pick 'em.

Army vs. TCU:
==========
- Frogs get a big home win.

Auburn vs. Arkansas:
================
- Aurburn rolls.

UCLA vs. Washington State:
====================
- Dorrell has his team playing very good football. Big win on the woad.

Florida State vs. Virginia:
=================
- FSU stomps UVA.

Georgia vs. Vanderbilt:
===============
- Gonna be a long, hard night in Nashville for the Commies.

Nebraska vs. Baylor:
===============
- Nebraska.

Oklahoma vs. Kansas:
================
- OU by 11.

UAB vs. Marshall:
=============
- Herd at home.

UCF vs. Southern Miss:
=================
- Let's make it 4 in a row. Confidence, confidence, confidence.

Stanford vs. Arizona:
===============
- Arizona is on their way up. Cats by 8.

UNT vs. Florida International:
====================
- They actually win a game?! Mean Green.

Utah State vs. Fresno:
================
- God, I hate Fresno State, but they'll win this one.

New Mexico State vs. Hawaii:
====================
- Hawaii at home.

You're right. The PSU defense did not hold Michigan to 2 field goals.
